Nic's Childminding Service I am a OFSTED registered childminder in Great Baddow. Offering a welcoming, home from home enviromen I offer a high standard of care for children in my own home.

We get out the house each and every day whether that be to the park, playgroup, library, farms, museums, shopping, indoor soft play etc dependant upon weather. With the weather set to be scorching for the next couple of days it's a great idea to make sure the little ones have some activities that can help keep them cool whilst also helping to keep their minds active.

Here's just a few of my favourite Ice Cube Activities which are a winner with the kids. These activities not only help keep them cool but they also help develop their skills in a range of areas.

I truly love where I live 💜

We get out everyday, but with the weather being so warm this week we decided to do some very early morning walks. This was to make sure we was not out in the height of the heat, but that we still got some time exploring the great outdoors.

There are a few different walks around the village that we do. This one is one of the children's favourites. We have a stop off point at the wooden play equipment where they get a chance to explore, exercise and practice their balancing skills. With a wooden bridge, a wobble board and a few balance boards as well as a grass area there's plenty for the children to explore. We always seem to come home with a bundle of sticks, stones, leaves and petals.

With it being so hot and the temperature still set to keep rising how are you all coping?

We are having lots of water play, keeping the curtains closed and having the fans going. Making sure we are drinking plenty and having lots of cool fruit. So far it's really helping to keep the house cool and the children nice and cool too.

I found this great poster with some fab tips of how to keep cool.

Remember that children and the elderly are the most vulnerable in the heat!

The children enjoyed their sensory messy play last week.

Using flour and Blended up Cheerios (honey hoops in this case) is a great little activity.

They can feel the flour and Cheerios are two different textures, they can use the trays to do some mark making or even for imagination play. Covering all areas of learning whilst playing 🥰

Once they have finished feeling the flour and Cheerios it's then time to see what marks we can make with the paintbrushes, and paint rollers. Even trying to write letters in the flour and Cheerios. We also drew around out hands and made some great hand prints too!

All in all this covers so many different areas of development that it truly is such a great activity.
It covers motor skills (fine) that they need to help them to write later on in life.
It covers speech and language as well as personal, social and emotional development whilst we talk about the different textures, how they feel, how they make us feel, how one child likes to use their hands more and one child likes to use a paintbrush more.
It also covers Expressive art and design, getting to make marks, drawing objects as well as drawing around our hands.
Last and no means least it helps their little imaginations grow. One little one wanted to build a snowman with the 'snow' whilst the other little one wanted to put pom poms in the Cheerios as sprinkles on a cake.

In June we took a trip to the at Thurrock.

The children loved exploring the nature reserve, even finding bugs such as the pretty little ladybird we got to hold.

We also bought two bee masks for our dressing up box. When we got back the children decided to make a tea party and pretend to be bees drinking the tea.

So many learning opportunities in one day!

We are a little behind with posting pictures from the last month, it's just been a little busy here.

Back in June for Father's Day the children enjoyed making a Daddy Canvas each.

This is such a simple technique of putting down masting tape to spell out Daddy and then letting the little ones paint the canvas.

As you can see they all had a go and the end result was so sweet.

We have been making the most of the weather as well as celebrating the Queen's Jubliee.

had a cultural band playing the drums and we popped along to have a look. We made sure to take advantage of the surroundings by taking a lovely walk as well as playing on the swings, slides and doing lots of climbing. We even managed to feed some ducks too.

Not letting the Queen's Jubliee pass us by either we read a few books that had a Queen in them, including Little Elizabeth and The Queen's Knickers. The children then enjoyed some Jubliee colouring in.
