On Saturday 13th June, seven Grays Convent High School students were selected to represent Thurrock at the annual Essex Schools’ County Track and Field Championships in Chelmsford.

Congratulations to all seven athletes who represented both Thurrock and Grays Convent with such determination, resilience and sportsmanship. To compete at county level is a significant achievement in itself, and the performances produced on the day were a credit to the athletes, their families and the school.

Essex Book Festival is hosting more than 100 author events, workshops, exhibitions and walks all across the county, between 28 May and 28 June 2026.

> In the most tragic of circumstances, we have seen incredible kindness and a real sense of community spirit. It has undoubtedly helped carry Henry’s family through some very dark days.

In December 2025, Henry Nowak’s life was tragically cut short while studying at Southampton University.

Henry had just begun his first year studying Accountancy and Finance. He was a loving son, brother, cousin, grandson, nephew, friend and teammate — a young man full of life, kindness and ambition. Henry had a way of bringing people together and was deeply loved by everyone fortunate enough to know him.

On the 3rd of December, Henry went on a night out with his new university football teammates to celebrate the end of their first semester. Devastatingly, he never made it home to his family.

In the months since, the support from the community has been overwhelming. So many people have reached out asking how they can help.

This event is our answer.

On Saturday 11th July 2026, we will come together at Aveley Football Club for a Celebrity Charity Football Match in Henry’s memory — celebrating his life through the game he loved most.

All funds raised will go to 2Wish, the incredible charity that stood beside Henry’s family in their darkest moments and continues to support families facing the unimaginable loss of a child.

This isn’t just a football match.
It’s a community coming together.
It’s a celebration of Henry’s life.
And it’s a chance to make sure his legacy continues to help others.
