🦋🌱 Our Butterfly Life Cycle Programme Has Begun! 🌱🦋

We have started one of our favourite programmes of the year, following the fascinating life cycle of a butterfly from beginning to end!

We currently have our very own caterpillars at nursery, giving the children the opportunity to observe them closely and watch the changes happen for themselves over the coming weeks. 🐛🔎

To begin their learning, the children enjoyed reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’, counting the different foods he ate and talking about what happens as a caterpillar grows and eventually transforms into a butterfly. They used lots of different props to explore each stage of the life cycle and bring the story to life. 📚

The children then had the exciting opportunity to observe our real caterpillars, looking closely at what they could see and talking about how they might change as they grow.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll continue observing our caterpillars as they grow, form their chrysalises and eventually emerge as butterflies, giving the children the chance to experience this incredible transformation first-hand. 🌿🦋

🌱🦋 Welcome to the Butterflies Allotment! 🥕🌻

Our Butterflies have been getting stuck into their very own sensory allotment, exploring everything you might find growing in a garden!

The children dug, scooped and poured using their hands and gardening tools, exploring different textures, colours and smells along the way. With lots of familiar vegetables and pictures to investigate, their teachers introduced new words and talked about where our food comes from and what plants need to grow. 🌱

We also explored different sizes using pumpkins, introducing words such as big and small, and talked about how farmers are busy getting pumpkins ready for next month. 🎃

From strengthening little hands through digging and scooping to developing early language and discovering more about the world around them, there was so much learning packed into their little allotment! 🌿💛

🌿🪨 Nature Nurture: Rough & Smooth! 🎨

Buterflies have been exploring rough and smooth during their Nature Nurture session using natural materials.

The children began by feeling and exploring different rocks, noticing how some felt rough and bumpy while others were much smoother. They then chose their favourites to paint and decorate with colourful gems, creating their very own special rock designs. ✨

As they created, their teachers introduced lots of descriptive words including rough, smooth, hard and bumpy, encouraging the children to explore the textures with their hands and begin to notice the differences between them 🌿💛

🍌🦷 Big Smiles & Banana Lollies! 🦷🍌

Our Bumblebees have been learning about looking after their teeth as part of our Big Smile programme, with a little help from some homemade banana lollies!

The children got stuck in mashing the bananas, adding milk, mixing everything together and carefully pouring the mixture into lolly moulds ready for the freezer. 🍌🥛

As we made them, we talked about foods and drinks that help keep our bodies and teeth healthy, including how the calcium in milk helps to keep our teeth strong.

And of course, the best part was getting to enjoy their banana lollies once they were frozen! 😋💛

Exploring Textures in Butterflies! 🌿

Our Butterflies have been exploring different textures found in the world around them, starting with some taste-safe sensory sand!

The children got stuck straight in, using their hands to dig, scoop, pour and squeeze the sand while discovering how it moved and felt between their fingers.

As they explored, their teachers introduced words such as soft, rough and smooth, helping to build their vocabulary and encourage them to notice the differences between textures.

For our youngest children, sensory play is such an important way of learning. While they explored, they were strengthening little hands and fingers, developing coordination and concentration, and using their senses to investigate something new.

Lots more texture exploring to come this week! 🦋💛

Graduation was never going to fit into just one post… ❤️

We couldn’t finish sharing our Graduation 2026 celebrations without one final look at another highlight from the day!

Our preschoolers had a very special visitor… their very own soft play bus! 🚌🎉 The children climbed, crawled, slid and explored their way around the bus and, judging by the photos, it’s safe to say they had the time of their lives!

And it wasn’t just the children… our team couldn’t resist getting involved either! 😂

Such a fun way to celebrate our Class of 2026 and give them one last big Play 2 Learn adventure together before they head off to Big School. 🎓💛

✨🎓 Graduation 2026 🎓✨

Every year, Graduation is one of the happiest... and most emotional... days in our calendar. 💛

On Saturday, we celebrated our wonderful preschoolers as they got ready to begin their next big adventure... Big School! 📚✨

Over the past few years, we’ve watched them grow into confident, independent and caring children. It’s been wonderful to see each of their personalities develop, and while we’ll all miss them, we’re excited to see them begin this next chapter at school. 🌟

It was so special for the children to have not only their Dragonflies teachers celebrating with them, but also familiar faces from our Butterflies and Bumblebees teams.

Many of these teachers have known the children since they first joined the nursery, watching some of them take their first steps, say their first words and grow into the confident preschoolers we celebrated on Saturday. It really was a lovely full-circle moment for everyone. ❤️

Thank you to all of our families for celebrating this special milestone with us. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did and made memories you’ll treasure for years to come.

And finally, a massive thank you to our incredible team. From planning every detail to setting up on the day, so much love and care went into making Graduation 2026 such a special celebration. We couldn’t be prouder of everything they created together. 💛

To our amazing Class of 2026... good luck! We know you’re going to do incredible things, and we can’t wait to hear all about your new adventures. 🎓✨

☀️💦 Making the Most of the Sunshine! 💦☀️

Dragonflies have been making the most of the warm weather with lots of water play, imagination and exploration! 🌈

The children loved caring for their baby dolls by giving them a bath, talking about how we keep babies clean and gently washing and drying them. They also enjoyed rescuing fish trapped inside icy blocks, using water and different tools to help free them, before cooling off with a science activity using syringes that quickly turned into a very fun water fight! 💧🐠

The excitement continued as the children explored supervised risky play with hammers, learning how to use real tools safely while developing confidence, coordination and concentration.

There were plenty of splashes, smiles and laughter as the children cooled off together! 💛
