We put the books to one side, and had a go at reading and carrying out the recipe 📖🧑‍🍳 - making reading

And that’s a wrap on the 2025-26 academic year 🎬

I’m incredibly proud of all my students - every small and big win - and I’m looking forward to resuming our sessions in August or September, as well as welcoming new students to the Phonics Tuition Thurrock family 😊🍎

I’d like to say a huge ‘thank you’ to my families for your ongoing support - it’s greatly appreciated ❤️

I’m now taking a much needed break myself to rest and enjoy some family time before my return on 17th August ☀️

The ‘Let’s Discover’ Series: Part 1️⃣1️⃣

Last in the series is… Finger Spaces.

Finger spaces are physical gaps left between words when writing a sentence, and supports young children to read and write words as individual units rather than a continuous stream of letters 📝

👆 Children learn to use their non-dominant hand for the space, while their dominant hand holds the pencil ✍️

If your child finds using their finger uncomfortable or if they’re left-handed, try…

💡 placing a lolly stick to create the space - they can decorate it however they like!
💡 drawing things they’re interested in - a robot 🤖, princess 👸 or animal 🦒 - and cutting them out

…these are great alternatives to using their finger, and will make writing more fun and engaging!

Next up in the series is… Reading Finger.

A ‘reading finger’ is a useful strategy that supports your child while reading 📖

👆 Your child learns to place their index finger under the words and move it from left to right as they read.

But what is the point? 🤔
➡️ It supports your child to read in the natural direction - from left to right
➡️ It helps your child stay on track while reading and prevents them from skipping words or lines
➡️ It supports them to remain focused
