The International Academy of WingChun was founded by Grandmaster Sifu Klaus Brand. The WingChun system of self defence was created purely for REAL self defence situations. It's origins date back hundreds of years to when populations had to defend themselves against invaders and an ability to defend yourself meant survival. In those days it would have been relatively easy to spot a would be attacke

r as people travelled far less and lived in smaller communities. Today we consider ourselves to be a civilised race but as news and media clearly show, unprovoked attacks by individuals or groups are all too common. Being able to fight is frowned upon by many. In the sporting arena, a good fighter is a hero. On the street, a good fighter is a bully or a gangster. Surely though it is everybody's responsibility to ensure they are able to protect themselves and their loved-ones?. A common saying is "It's the quiet ones you've got to watch". The quiet ones are the calculating, thinking ones. The ones who are aware of themselves and their surroundings. The ones who are ready to explode into action if needed. As a student of the WingChun system of self defence, you will learn awareness, focus, technique, speed and power which will enable you to defeat a would be attacker quickly and unconditionally. You have to understand that the world is still a volatile place to live but you do not have to fear it if you are prepared.

Ready for the move to senior school?

This is a big moment in life and can be very daunting.

Going from a school where you start and leave as a child to one where you start as a child and leave as a young adult can be very frightening.

With students from under 5 feet tall up to over 6 feet, the huge differences in size and power can make some feel very nervous.

The WingChun system utilizes technique to overcome size difference in combat situations.

Of course we do not condone violence of any sort.......but in real life, it happens and we strongly believe everyone should have at least a base level of self defence capability.

To this end, the IAW-Gravesend will be teaching self defence strategy and technique for an hour per week on Tuesday evenings at Vigo Village hall from 19.30 starting on 21-7-26 geared especially towards teens in a school environment.

A disclaimer when searching the internet for self-defence law in the UK states-"This information is based on current UK law, primarily the Criminal Law Act 1967".

How in anyone's thinking is 1967 relative to society now?

Too much has changed for the 1967 laws to protect us now.

There was of course violence on our streets and in our homes.....we are Sapiens..... it's what we do.

We all know of the violence of the gangster lifestyle, drug gangs and turf wars......this is part of the way of life.

But now there are many new threats.

Soldiers of many different religions, walking amongst us, un-vetted.

The gangs wielding machetes willing to kill for a mobile phone.

The fear of losing what was a good old dust-up on a Friday at the pub now creating the necessity to carry a blade.

Random attacks through mental health issues.

Revenge attacks on random people as "payback" because a country linked to ours attacked theirs.

1967 it certainly is not.

Because of austerity, mis-directed funding and the need for equality and inclusion, we have a massively diminished protection force, both police and military.

You used to have to be nearly 6 feet tall to join the police......I regularly see 5 feet tall, probably less than 60KG female police officers standing on the front line against violence with insufficient protection and inadequate training for the modern world.

The police we have can only "mop up" after an incident.....they are too low in numbers to likely be there when you need them.

We have in excess of 80,000 unknowns of multiple "less tolerant" faiths hell bent on destructing others ways of living in the name of a misinterpreted faith.

There are around 10,000 towns and cities in the UK and on one day, when the call is made to go, there could be situations far worse than London Bridge or Lee Rigby and we are too far stretched to prevent it.

We need to update our self defence laws for current times.

The Police carry Tonfa battons and tazers.....Legal for use in self defence.......so if it is deemed necessary and legal for them, why is it illegal for you and I?

This is not scare mongering, racist, anti-religion or violence encouraging......

It's just the truth.

Learn to defend yourself somehow.
Your protection is in your hands because it's unlikely anyone will be there to protect you.
