Bronte School

Bronte School Bronte School is an independent preparatory school for 3 - 11 year olds with train links to London

Bronte School is an independent preparatory school, for 4 to 11 year olds. Its setting is a fine, spacious building, with plenty of outdoor garden and play areas, in the centre of Gravesend, 3 or 4 minutes from the station. Founded in 1905, Bronte has a long tradition as a family school, where a child’s confidence grows, amidst bright, warm environment, in which support and affirmation run togethe

r with stretch and challenge. In its ethos, the school looks to combine traditional values with a lively academic life and a broad, exciting curriculum. Excellent teaching and strong background administration allow these elements to be in balance and mutually supportive. There is one class per year group, each with maximum size of 20. The school is thus relatively small, something which helps its family feel. There is a strong staff team: teachers and teaching assistants lead the way educationally, and support staff provide the underpinning and the environment for learning and growth. Bronte is conveniently located for any family living in Gravesend, Ebbsfleet, Dartford/Greenhithe, and the surrounding villages. The commuting links to central London are very fast, and the school fits well with different modern family lifestyles.

Music is such an important part of life at Bronte! It gives our pupils the opportunity to explore different instruments, develop new skills, and experience the joy of creating music together.

From learning individual parts to playing alongside their classmates, our pupils are encouraged to listen, collaborate, and discover the magic of making music as a group. We’re also proud to have peripatetic teachers on site who offer a variety of individual and small-group lessons, tailored to help every child flourish.

Whether they’re picking up an instrument for the first time, building confidence performing at school events and national competitions, or continuing to develop their musical talents, we love seeing our pupils explore their creativity!

In June, our pupils took to the stage for a fantastic performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, bringing laughter, energy and creativity to this much-loved comedy!

From the first rehearsals to the final performance, it has been wonderful to see our pupils embrace their roles, support each other and enjoy the excitement of bringing a story to life on stage.

For our school community, these moments are a chance to come together, celebrate our pupils’ achievements and share in the pride and excitement of seeing them shine on stage.

A huge well done to our cast, staff and everyone involved in making this year’s production such a memorable occasion!

It’s often the little moments that leave the biggest impression.

A teacher taking the time to listen. A kind word of encouragement. A new challenge overcome. A friendship that grows.

At Bronte, we believe these everyday moments are what make a child’s school experience truly special. Beyond lessons and achievements, it’s the relationships, experiences, and sense of belonging that help children feel supported, confident, and inspired to thrive.

Because a school is more than a place to learn. It’s a community where children grow, discover, and create memories that last a lifetime.

Year 3 stepped back in time for an unforgettable Ancient Egyptian Day!

Dressed in fantastic costumes and creative make-up, the children brought their history topic to life through a range of hands-on experiences.

They sampled food inspired by Ancient Egyptian times, created Shabtis from clay, and even carefully mummified their toys before placing them inside beautifully decorated sarcophagi.

It was a fun, immersive day full of creativity, curiosity, and memorable learning experiences that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
