Noodle soup!🍜
This week we extended the learning opportunities in our mud kitchen by providing the children with chopsticks and new materials. The children developed their control over one handed tools and their mathematical awareness. The children counted the ingredients into the bowl and found different techniques to move the ingredients between bowls.

Today the children have been celebrating Lunar New Year as they learned about the similarities and differences between themselves and others through cultural celebrations and traditions 🧧Todays activities have sparked so many new opportunities and interesting conversations!

Bird feeder update ✅
The children helped to place them around the garden, now we wait to see what happens next.

Preschool have been using their increasing knowledge and understanding of tools and materials to explore their interests to create bears. The children spoke about the bears facial features and discussed ways of making these as well as the emotion their bears could be feeling and why.

Toddlers have enjoyed bird watching this week, counting how many birds they could see and copying the noises they make 🐦⬛
To extend our children’s learning further they have made bird feeders whilst talking about what birds eat. This have provided many opportunities to develop their World and Communities knowledge as well a great start to their Eco-School journey 🌎
We hope to attract many more birds into our garden next week!

Windmill has started off their Eco-School journey with a nursery ‘Battery Bank’. Staff, parents and carers are able to bring their old batteries to nursery for us to then recycle helping to cut down on the waste produced by nursery and the wider community 🌎

‘ We’re going on a bear hunt’ is our book of the month from our Curriculum. 📖
Toddlers enjoyed exploring how to make a cave for a bear. This helped to extend the children’s interest in making marks as well as repeating some of the key phrases within the book as they painted.🐻

Many of the children throughout Windmill have been refining their fine motor skills through helping to prepare fruits and vegetables for a delicious soup.
The toddlers expanded their vocabulary as they learnt new words such as ‘slice’ and ‘chop’.
Preschool talked about the different smells with each food as well as learning about safety when using one handed tools to chop with.

Hungry little rabbit, looking for his lunch
Are the snowman’s carrot with a
Crunch, crunch, crunch

Babies had a magical time exploring the activities in the lead up to Christmas. They developed their independence skills and an awareness of dressing routines as they practiced putting on Santa hats.
They have also been on hunt for objects to stick and post through their Christmas tree’s enhancing their fine motor and coordination skills 🎄

A final festive yoga session for the year. The children enjoyed pretending to be elves, reindeers and of course Santa as they thought about different ways for each of them to move. This developed the children’s imaginative play as well as their gross motor skills as they balanced and created the different poses.
