🐸🌿 A Froggy Discovery in Toddlers 🌿🐸

Our Toddlers recently made an exciting discovery in the garden when they spotted a frog!

The adults carefully and safely caught the frog and placed it into a view finder, giving the children the opportunity to take a much closer look. There was lots of curiosity as they watched the frog, noticing its movements and talking about what they could see.

Once everyone had had a chance to look, the frog was carefully released back into the wild in a safe spot, ready to continue exploring its surroundings. 💚

It’s always lovely when unexpected discoveries like this turn into wonderful learning opportunities, allowing the children to get up close to nature and develop their curiosity about the world around them. ✨

🌳 Babies exploring the woods 🌳

Like all of the children across the nursery, our babies regularly enjoy spending time in the woods, and we recently captured some lovely moments from one of their morning visits.

They had a yummy snack before heading off to explore, hunting for sticks on the forest floor, enjoying a story under a tree, practising their walking and generally exploring and enjoying everything the woods had to offer. Before they headed back for lunch they sat down together as a group and sang some nursery rhymes.

It was lovely to see the babies taking in their surroundings, enjoying the fresh air and having lots of opportunities to explore and discover at their own pace. 🌿✨

🌻 Sunflower-Inspired Art in Foxes 🌻

Over the summer holidays, our Kindergarten Foxes enjoyed getting creative and making some wonderful artwork inspired by the beautiful sunflowers that had been picked from the garden.

Some children enjoyed adding to the painting wall, decorating the flowers that had already been drawn or creating their own, while others had a go at observational painting using watercolours. 🎨

The creativity continued the following day, with the children exploring sunflower rollers and yellow playdough, or different stampers and a variety of paintbrushes that created lots of different effects.

It was lovely to see the children exploring the sunflowers in so many different ways and using their own ideas to create some beautiful artwork. 🌻✨

🎨✨ Messy Play Fun in Badgers ✨🎨

Our Kindergarten Badgers enjoyed lots of messy play fun last week, with the whole experience developing from the children’s own ideas and suggestions.

An adult asked the children what they would like in the tuff tray, and one child suggested shaving foam. So, the shaving foam was added and, following another child’s suggestion, they made it colourful too! This provided a wonderful opportunity to explore the sensory material whilst experimenting with colour mixing.

Once they had explored this, the adult suggested changing the sensory experience by adding some PVA glue. The children helped to mix it together and were very excited to discover that they had created puffy paint! They then used their new paint to create artwork on some cardboard provided by the adults. 🎨

Later, whilst admiring their artwork, an adult suggested that once it was dry, they could turn it into bunting to hang up in the room. 💚

A wonderful example of planning in the moment and following the children’s lead, allowing their ideas and curiosity to shape where the learning and play went next. ✨

The Tiger Who Came to Tea

Recently, our Kindergarten Foxes had lots of fun bringing this much-loved story to life!

During one group time, whilst the children were listening to the story, one of the adults suddenly knocked on the door with a tiger teddy… just like the tiger arriving at the house in the story! The children loved it!

After finishing the story, they then had a go at moving around the room like tigers, pretending to eat all the cakes, drink all the water from the tap, swish their tails and practise their best tiger growls. 🐯

And the storytelling continued into the afternoon, at snack time, the children made sandwiches just like the ones the tiger ate for his tea.

We love this story and know it is so well-loved by many of you too. It was wonderful to see just how much the children enjoyed bringing it to life and the fun they had along the way.

We also loved hearing from one parent that their child was so excited to tell them and their siblings all about the experience when they got home… and just had to find their tiger teddy and the book! 💚

🐝 A Day All About Bees 🐝

Our Rangers had a wonderful day last week learning all about our buzzy friends!

They headed into the woods on a bee hunt, using a bee identification chart to help them correctly identify and keep track of the different bees they discovered.

They also learnt all about how honey is made and enjoyed tasting some different types of honey at snack time.
The group then had a go at making their own felt bees and even had the chance to dress up in a beekeeper outfit!

What a fantastic and educational day, filled with curiosity, creativity and lots of opportunities to learn more about these amazing little creatures! 🐝

🎨 Junk Modelling Fun 🎨

Our Toddlers recently enjoyed adding some new additions and extra colour to their junk modelling collage! ♻️

The children explored the different materials as they selected them from the junk modelling basket.

You could really see the high levels of concentration and focus as they selected their materials and paint colours, adding their own ideas and watching their collaborative creation come together.

The masterpiece already looked fabulous, but now it looks even more amazing. Well done Toddlers! ✨

🧊🌸 Ice, Flowers & Colour 🌸🧊

Our Kindergarten Foxes recently enjoyed exploring a tuff tray filled with ice, flowers and colourful water.

There were lots of opportunities to practise those all-important fine motor skills as the children used tweezers to pick up and move the ice, squeezed bottles to release the colourful water and carefully operated pipettes to transfer the water.

There was plenty of fun, curiosity and exploration as the children experimented with the different materials and watched the colours and ice change.

🌻 Toddlers Sunflower Soup 🌻

Our Toddlers have been enjoying lots of fun in their mud kitchen recently, and a few weeks ago one of the adults added some sunflower heads to the area, which sparked some lovely play, conversations and exploration.

Emily modelled how the children could carefully pick the petals from the sunflower and add them to their creations. As she did so, she introduced lots of language-rich vocabulary, including words such as ‘sprinkle’ and ‘flutter’, describing how the petals fell from her hand. This gave the children the opportunity to hear and begin to understand new words in a meaningful and playful context.

The group loved adding the colourful sunflower petals to their bowls of water, mixing and stirring as they created their very own sunflower soup and other yummy dishes. 🌻🥣

A simple addition to the mud kitchen created so many opportunities for sensory exploration, language development, imaginative play and learning. 💚
