Autumn is coming and the leaves are turning to beautiful colours, which makes a revision and extension to our colour naming and vocabulary the perfect place to start. A wonderful nature walk through the gardens at Belton House, a visit to our local garden centre and visiting the local parks to identify apple/pear trees ready to harvest, new colours in plants for autumn gardens and collecting dry leaves of many colours. We have even found our first conkers dropping onto the floor.... Lunches continue to be a mix of hot picnics and cooked lunches as the season changes

A cool morning in the woodlands den building and using our imaginations for collaborative play. The little ones used sticks as trains and drove them along the tree branches. Big ones used branches and logs to create a home. We had our picnic lunch under the shade of the trees and some walking through the meadow grasses listening to the birds and crickets. So many wild flowers in the long grass now we are in summer, trees with flowers and berries growing in the bushes. Lunch today was whole meal wraps with cheese and tomato, cucumber sticks, sliced cauldron sausage, pear, yoghurt, raspberry tiddlers. We came back this afternoon to the shelter of the house and fans, unpacked some parcels of new drawing boards and a town playmat for vehicles.

With the weather set to hit 30C and then some we headed out in the early fresh air in time for the splash park to open. The cold water fountains and running water kept everyone cool. Lots of water cups and sun cream along with sun hats and shade made the morning lots of fun for the little ones. We headed to the shady trees with our picnic blanket for our lunch and treated everyone to a lemon lolly afterwards. When everyone was dried and dressed we had a short play in the park before heading home to the room fans and cool inside of my home for a slow and gentle afternoon of free choice play- the trains and balls were used with lots of imagination as the older ones are thriving on their pretend play together. Lunch today was bbq mince macaroni with grated cheese and fresh sweetcorn.

When the weather heats up, we slow down. Lots of water, ice, sun cream and fresh fruit. We chose a shady play area for our morning activities today so energy could be used up without any danger of overheating or becoming dehydrated. We have been counting everything we find and sorting nature items into different groups. Our counting activity continued this afternoon grouping different toys the children chose. Lunch today was broccoli and courgette risotto, quorn chunks, green beans followed by plum and berries in plain yoghurt

This week is World Ocean week, so as it was raining we went to the garden centre to see the fish, ponds and sandpit. The sandpit was closed as it was raining so we spent our time and energy in the soft play instead. The ball pit became our ocean with fish, the slide was a wave to move through - according to our munchkins imaginations. Before coming back for lunch we stopped and bought some more tomato compost and feed for our growing plants. Lunch today was a hidden veggie pasta bake, grated cheese, garlic bread, broccoli followed by fresh fruit in plain yoghurt

Today the weather was dry but cloudy so we had a short walk through the gardens at Belton House before having our snack in the Ride Cafe. We took some toys and balls with us so that we could have some turn taking games, rolling or throwing the ball in pairs back and forth. There were a number of other children to make friends with and join in our play which encouraged collaborative and imaginative play as well as our games. Lunch today was a pick up picnic.

This morning we have taken ourselves off to soft play to join in the music and dance morning. Some of the children love moving to music and teaching nursery rhymes is an excellent way to improve vocabulary and memory as well as coordinated movement. In addition to music and songs we have been using gross and fine motor skills to climb, hide, slide and swing all around the large soft play available. Lunch today has been pizza fingers, garlic bread slice, mashed potatoes, baked beans and side salad followed by choice of fresh fruit in Greek yoghurt.

Following our safety awareness week we have had a trip to the farm so we could use their space to create roadways in chalk. We have had stories about road and car safety, sung lots of songs on the car. Used toy cars, trucks and vehicles to drive, pedal and ride on an imaginary roadway. Picnic lunch containing cheese/ham pittas, side salad, fresh fruit, teddy faces, followed by yoghurt.
