Yesterday evening Bertie and I enjoyed a lovely walk up at the Hills and Hollows, before we settled in for an evening on the sofa. Bertie snoozing while I did some of my annual skills review.

The annual skills review allows me to retain my Pet/Canine First Aid Instructor certification.

This year it’s got my brain working on some better content ideas for this page so that it’s a better resource for those that have studied with me and those that just want to know more.

We have been working behind the scenes to put some dates in the diary for courses in Grantham in 2027.

They are now live on the website and here are the dates for quick reference:

21st Feb
15th May
18th Jul
18th Sept
14th Nov

We have planned a couple of Saturday classes for next year as there were a number of requests for those recently.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 if none of these dates work for you, why not get a few friends (6 of you as a minimum, 12 maximum) and host your own class.

Our last course of 2026 is taking place on 15th Nov at Dog Adventure Centre in Grantham.

Whether you want to do a Pet First Aid or Canine First Aid Qualification we offer both, in person, for pet owners and pet care professionals alike.

We cover topics including bandaging, what is first aid, medications, fleas, ticks and CPR to name a few.

Bit of a change of scenery for me today as I’m in Milton Keynes at the MK Dons stadium with a bunch of fellow pet care business professionals planning the next 90 and 180 days of business goals and actions to stay on track for future success.

Don’t forget whether you are a business owner, a pet owner or working in the pet care industry an up to date canine or pet first aid qualification can give you the confidence to deal with emergencies as they arise and who knows you could be the hero in a pets life.

Definitely something to consider out in the warm weather

COLLAR SAFETY: The Burke Family are crushed after losing their new puppy to collar strangulation on June 25th. Tip Burke writes, "Last night, we tragically lost our sweet 5-month-old puppy, Onyx, in a freak accident. While playing outside, his collar became snagged on our wooden fence, causing accidental strangulation. Despite exhausting every medical option to save him from severe oxygen deprivation, we had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize him to end his suffering. We held him and loved on him until the very end.

Fellow fur parents, please be mindful of the collars your babies wear, especially during outdoor playtime. We hope sharing this prevents another family from experiencing this devastating loss.
We love you so much, Onyx. You brought endless joy to our lives and will forever be a part of our family. Rest in peace, our Little Boy Blue. 🐾💙"

Dog Collar Safety is something a lot of people are unaware of. Almost 30,000 dogs die annually from some type of collar strangulation incident. It just takes a minute for a dog to get into dangerous trouble from a collar incident. Ryder Safe Foundation at Labradorablebffs Ryder Safe Foundation provides education and awareness on pet collar safety. The Founder, Lynette Smith, created the organization after losing her 4 year old Labrador, Ryder, who died from dog collar strangulation while playing with their other pup, Skyrah, who luckily survived with terrible jaw injuries. It was a devastating event for the family.

Not only can collars become entangled when two dogs are playing, but they can also get caught on:

Just finished a day training the team Royvon Dog Hotel & Training in Esher. The team coped great in the heat and I got to have a tour of their facility.

Well it has been a while since I've said hello and introduced myself so I thought I should do it.

So, my name is Sara and Pet First Aid Training by Sara came about when I couldn't find an in person pet first aid course near to Grantham when I was looking for one when I started my dog walking business back in 2018. So, I have now been in the pet care industry for over 8 years now, and still operate my dog walking and home baording business (Who Lets Your Dog Out?) alongside the Dog Adventure Centre.

I have a law degree (that I have never really used), spent time in the Army, worked in industries including IT, gyms, management consultancy and behaviour change, and few other places as well.

I started walking dogs in 2018 as a 6mth career break, and it is safe to say as far as career breaks go it was a fail, as it's now my career and pretty much my whole life.
I still don't own a pet of my own, but who knows maybe one day.

Also earlier this year I cut my hair and managed to donate 4 plaits of 70cm to the Little Princess Trust to help make wigs for kids that are in need of them. It's already on mission to grow back so maybe this will be a thing that happens every few years going forward.
