A hot day called for shade and breeze which we found in our local woods. The children enjoyed setting up our base camp and busied themselves building dens, making twig nests, hunting for critters and finding the most amazing oversized fairy puff wishing wands ( otherwise known as dandelion seed heads ! ) we listened carefully to the sounds of our environment, crickets, leaves rustling in the breeze and an airplane overhead that we couldn’t see through the tree canopy. We noticed along our walk that lots of bowls of water had been left for dogs to drink so the children refilled a few that were nearly empty. We also had our story sat on a fallen log which we adopted as our own story circle seating !!
We ate our lunch on our picnic blanket ( in our perfect clearing) before heading back to the setting for naps . Today’s am snack was strawberry puff corn xx

We headed out early this morning to play in the coolness of the shade provided by some huge trees. This also gave the children the opportunity to practice climbing trees carefully with only one reminder first to remember to watch where they place their feet and hands in order to climb and balance safely. They finished off with a play in the park before heading into the ice box for a refreshing sugar free vanilla ice cream .
We returned to the setting for lunch of Marry me chicken and chorizo with sun-dried tomato cream sauce , mashed potato and peas. We finished off with homemade flapjacks.
We are trialing some ingenious cold towels this week which we’ve added to each child’s summer comfort bags . So far I’m extremely impressed # # #

We took a walk early on to the splash pad. The children absolutely loved splashing and keeping cool under the fountains and in the paddling water. We had an early lunch in our Bento flasks and then all sat under the shade of a huge tree with icelollies as a treat to get us all nice and cool before we returned to the setting. We decided to catch the bus back ( the idea of climbing the hill as the temperature rose wasn’t appealing at all !!! ) of course the children were thrilled and all sat nicely and pointed out landmarks along the way back # # #

The children enjoyed a nice walk in our local area. They were all particularly keen to go and look safely at the diggers that are working around the corner at the moment. We then continued with a trip to our local park. Everyone enjoyed the various apparatus as well as a running race on the field.
We returned to the setting for lunch of buffalo chicken with roasted potatoes, croutons and salad with Italian style cheese and mayonnaise. They later asked for added ham off the bone as they had spotted Rebecca’s sandwich ! We finished off with watermelon slices. Snack this morning was pear and peach slices # # #

We’ve had such an exciting day today. The children all walked nicely to our local bus stop and we caught a bus into town. We visited the library where the children returned our borrowed books and chose some more. We then decided to enjoy lunch in the cafe instead of in the setting. The children decided they would like sausages, vegetables and chips and followed on with some biscuits for pudding xx

Today we took our activities to a local park and enjoyed an outdoor classroom!!
We are looking at all different kinds of families. The children used the peg people to recreate the members of their own family and they were interested in finding out about how their friends families are made up because all our families are different . The children learned that there is a celebration soon for dads, grandads, brothers or other special male people who are important to us . This led to making fathers and others cards independently. Finally we enjoyed a story which described a neurodivergent child’s reaction to colors and feelings . The children then all had a wonderful time using all their large motor skills to draw their own rainbows 🌈 such a lovely way to spend the day .
Lunch today was fragrant port and veg stir fry with rice and fruit of choice . The am snack was kiwi and satsumas # # #

With our van being out of action again 🙈 we changed our plans and took a lovely walk to a fairly local park . We met up with our friends from another setting and together all enjoyed a pleasant walk, listening well to instructions and spotting lots of insects, wildflowers and the beginnings of this year’s crop of blackberries!!! The children played so nicely together at the park and all had a great game of football !!
We all sat nicely for a picnic lunch together on our picnic blankets before heading back to the setting for an afternoon of quiet focused learning followed by den building # # #
