Year 6 had a fantastic Maths lesson yesterday playing Number Guess Who. I was very impressed with the questions they were asking their partners to try and guess their numbers; they used a range of mathematical vocabulary including, "Is your number less than/greater than..."

Today, in Science, we experimented to find out which magnet was the strongest. We used 3 different types of magnets and hung paperclips in a chain to see which magnet could hold the most. Most children found the bar magnet the strongest, especially Ethan who had a record breaking amount of paperclips hanging in a chain. We think he might be magnetic too. Mrs Walledge

In Science, we have been exploring forces. We know that a force is a push or a pull. In conjunction with that, we have investigated friction by sliding a coin over different surfaces. There was a clear winner on which surface produced the least friction and allowed the coin to go the furthest. We also lost a few coins along the way. - Mrs Walledge

Yesterday, the Mini Cadets had a lesson in camouflage and concealment. We spoke about why it would be important for a soldier to have these skills and the purpose behind it. The children really enjoyed experimenting with the face paint on themselves and others to see what camouflage patterns they could make. A messy but fun activity. Bath night tonight!

Today, in Y4 maths, we used our knowledge of 3D shape and a prompt from Task Master's Alex Horne to try and build the tallest free standing tower. There were some valiant efforts but the overall winners were Lilliana and Ayesha with their Burj inspired design.

In Science today, we had lots of fun learning about electrical circuits. We used component parts to create a circuit for the electricity, provided by the batteries, to flow around. Once complete, our circuits managed to light up a bulb, make a buzzer sound and start a motor. You should have seen how bright the bulb got when we added more batteries!

During our history topic of inventors, we have been learning about George Stephenson and Isambard Kingdom Brunel, both of whom were pioneers of their time. On Friday we focused on Isambard Kingdom Brunel and looked at some of the things he was famous for, one of which was the Clifton Suspension Bridge. This was a perfect opportunity to revisit our topic of bridges from earlier in the year and the children were challenged to build the strongest bridge they could out of Lego.

At the end of last term, the Reception children had a wonderful time visiting Belton House to consolidate their learning in Term 5. The excitement began in the minibus with the children noticing different types of transport and features of the local environment that were new or that they recognised.

At Belton House the children loved exploring the grounds including the conservatory, church, maze and adventure playground. We all had a fantastic time and some lovely memories have been made.
