GCSE Results Day 2026 at Bethany 🎉

A huge congratulations to our Year 11 pupils on an outstanding set of GCSE results! We are incredibly proud to celebrate 93% of grades awarded at 9-4, well above the national average of 67%, alongside 100% pass rates in Mathematics, Photography, Religious Studies, Dance, Music, Spanish and Italian.

Francie Healy, Headmaster, said, “I feel both overwhelmed and humbled by the sheer magnitude of the achievements of our Year 11 cohort this year. It has been a joy to witness their evolving maturity and diligence as the year progressed. Watching them working in such close harmony with their teachers was a joy to witness, and personifies the wonderful Bethany community spirit that permeates our classrooms every single day. I'm delighted that our Year 11 pupils have built such a strong platform to embrace the next stage of their education. The sky really is the limit for these pupils”.

In this video, our incoming Headmaster, Mr Paul Jones, shares his congratulations and reflects on what makes today about so much more than grades.

66 combined years. One extraordinary journey. 💙

As August draws to a close, Bethany School says goodbye to two people who have given an extraordinary combined 66 years of service to the School.

After 37 years at Bethany, our Headmaster, Mr Francie Healy, is retiring. Joining the school in 1989 as a young Mathematics teacher, Francie has witnessed, and helped shape, an extraordinary period of change.

From the arrival of the first girls and the early days of classroom technology, to the transformation of the campus and the development of today’s Bethany, Francie’s career has taken him from Mathematics teacher to ICT pioneer, Houseparent, Director of Studies, Deputy Head Academic and, since 2010, Headmaster.

But his greatest contribution cannot be measured in buildings or job titles. It is found in the generations of pupils, parents and colleagues who have experienced his humour, kindness, encouragement and genuine care for the Bethany community.

And alongside him throughout that journey has been Mrs Frances Healy, who is also retiring after 29 years at Bethany.

Frances joined the School in 1997 as Housemistress of Old Poplars, at a time when girls were still relatively new to Bethany. She played a pivotal role in shaping our girls’ boarding provision, making Old Poplars a second home for generations of boarders.

Alongside raising her own family and supporting Francie, Frances became a cornerstone of the English and DLS departments, an exceptional tutor and a teacher remembered for her high standards, patience, warmth and unwavering belief in her pupils.

Together, Francie and Frances have been part of the fabric of Bethany for decades. Their contribution is woven into the School’s history, but more importantly, into the lives of the many people they have supported along the way.

And while we will miss their professionalism, warmth, humour and unmistakable presence around School, we are delighted that they now have the opportunity to begin a very well-deserved retirement together.

Thank you, Mr and Mrs Healy, for 66 remarkable years of service to Bethany. We wish you both, and your family, every happiness for this next chapter. 💙

Congratulations to all those receiving their A Level results today. This summer is on course for record-breaking warmth, and Bethany is celebrating record-breaking success of its own. 🎉

Two-thirds of our Year 13 Class of 2026 have secured A*–B grades, an outstanding achievement that reflects the hard work of our pupils and the dedication of our caring staff. 👏

Francie Healy, Headmaster, commented “It's great to see such hard work and diligence duly rewarded. Our Year 13 pupils worked tirelessly for these exams and deserve every ounce of praise going. What an incredible journey it has been!✈️

After travelling back to Phnom Penh, the group enjoyed one final evening together, picking up a few last souvenirs at the night market and celebrating an unforgettable expedition with a farewell meal.

A huge thank you to Tim, the groups fantastic True Adventure leader, and to Bethany's own Miss King and Dr Evans, whose support, enthusiasm and care made this expedition such a memorable experience for every pupil.

The group has now said goodbye to Cambodia and is currently making their way home, with an expected arrival at Gatwick around midday today.

Thank you for following the adventure over the past three weeks, we can't wait to welcome everyone home and hear all about their experiences!

🌏 Bethany School True Adventure: Cambodia & Vietnam Update #7

The Better Lives project has come to an end, and what an incredible few days it has been!

Working alongside the local community, pupils helped create FAITH (Food Always In The Home) gardens by planting crops, building trellises and installing protective fencing to help families grow food to eat and sell. They also completed the pig enclosure, finishing the walls, floor and roof to create a lasting resource for the community.

There was still time to make new friends, enjoy a final celebration with the local community and reflect on everything they had achieved together.

Back in Siem Reap, the group explored by rickshaw, visited Artisans Angkor and the Angkor Silk Farm to learn about traditional Cambodian crafts, before rounding off the day at the night market.

The team is now travelling back to Phnom Penh for their final night in Cambodia before beginning the journey home to the UK.

🌏 Bethany School True Adventure: Cambodia & Vietnam Update #6

The group arrived in Siem Reap on Tuesday, where they visited the breathtaking Angkor Wat - the ancient "City of Temples". Covering more than 400 acres, it is the world's largest religious monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

They've now begun the next stage of their expedition with the Better Lives charity. After meeting the team in Peaksneng and preparing for the project, pupils got straight to work in the local community. Day one included preparing land for planting and helping to build a pig enclosure, making a real, lasting difference while learning about life in rural Cambodia.

The group will spend three days working alongside Better Lives before returning to Siem Reap for the final stages of their adventure.

🌏 Bethany School True Adventure: Cambodia & Vietnam Update #5

The adventure stepped up a gear in Cambodia! After travelling by boat to the remote village of Chi Phat, the group settled into homestays, met the local community and explored nearby waterfalls before beginning their Cardamom rainforest trek.

Over the next three days, pupils trekked through the jungle, cooled off in waterfalls, slept in hammocks beside a stunning waterfall and celebrated the successful completion of an unforgettable trekking challenge. Monsoon rain meant the final day's trek was replaced with sport, card games and quizzes, with congratulations to AJ, Olivia, Hattie and Ellie for winning the quiz! 🏆

The group has now said farewell to their incredible trek guides and is preparing for the next stage of the expedition.

🌏 Bethany School True Adventure: Cambodia & Vietnam Update #4

The last few days have been packed! Pupils helped cook dinner with their Vietnamese homestay hosts, explored the Mekong Delta's floating and fruit markets and said farewell to guide John before crossing by boat into Cambodia.

Now in Phnom Penh, the group has reflected on Cambodia's history with visits to the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, including meeting a 90-year-old survivor. They also visited the Royal Palace and rounded off the day with a trip to the local markets before the trekking adventure begins.

Next stop... the Cambodian jungle! 🌿
