A massive thank you to the families who have completed our Google Form for the optional early collection over the next few days.
There is no expectation that you must collect early; we wanted to give parents the option as it is exceptionally hot in school and, despite the preventative measures we have put in place, we are unable to bring classroom temperatures below 30 degrees.
Children who remain in school will be grouped together, supervised, and provided with an adapted curriculum.
Most of you are taking up this option and will collect your child/children at 12:30 from their usual exit points.
Some parents have indicated slightly different collection times on their forms, and this is completely fine—we understand that not all parents are able to collect at 12:30.
A few parents have completed the form but did not include their child’s name. If you think this may be you, please complete the form again. In addition, a few parents have used the link for a year group that does not match their child’s year group.
Please use the links below, and do share them with any parents who may not have seen the emails, Arbor messages, or Facebook posts.
Thank you for your support.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Early partial closure (please see your email for further details)
We are writing to update you regarding the extreme temperatures forecast for the next two to three days.
This is an unusual situation for all schools, and we have been carefully considering how best to support our children. The heat has been extremely challenging for both pupils and staff and indoor temperatures within the building are making it increasingly difficult for children to remain comfortable and regulate their body temperature.
As always, the health and wellbeing of the children in our care is our highest priority. Unfortunately we have very few shaded areas at St John's so the heat outdoors at lunchtime is unbearable. We do not have any air conditioning in the building so by lunchtime classrooms are at 30 degrees plus.
For this reason we have decided to do an optional partial closure and offer an early finish each day. While we are very mindful of the disruption this may cause, we do not feel that full school days are appropriate in these conditions.
Partial closure arrangements
Following an updated extreme heat risk assessment, and in consultation with the Chair of Governors, the school will close early at 12:30pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Children can be collected from 12.30 p.m. until 12.45 p.m. The gate will then be shut at 12.45 p.m.
Lunches
Children will have eaten lunch before dismissal. Lunch will remain as planned tomorrow but for Thursday and Friday a picnic lunch will be offered. Please check School Grid later this evening and select new options for Thursday and Friday.
Collection
Collection will be from the usual places
All children must be collected — they will not be permitted to walk home alone due to the earlier finish.
Support for families
We understand that this may present challenges for some families. You may have work or other commitments which means that you are unable to make alternative arrangements and collect early. This is an optional early finish and children may stay in school if preferred.
After school Club
If your child attends After School Club in the hut with Rich, this will still be running as usual.
Year 3 Stubbington Trip
We have contacted Stubbington and we will email parents in the next 30 minutes about this.
Google Form For Registers
Please can we ask all parents to complete this and to indicate whether they will be collecting children early or whether they will stay in school. For children who are staying in school, we will adapt learning and keep them as cool as possible. Unfortunately, even with fans, the classrooms are likely to be above 30 degrees tomorrow as they were 29/30 today.

Attendance
Morning attendance remains compulsory
Afternoon absence will be authorised due to the extreme heat
School Clubs
Clubs will not be running for the rest of the week.
We would ask that children who go home as part of the early closure remain supervised and are not allowed to go to the park or near the water unsupervised
We appreciate your understanding and support as we respond to these exceptional circumstances and take the steps we believe are necessary to keep children safe.
Please share the google form links with other parents in the year group if you have contact with them. Thank you.
Dear Parents and Carers,
We regret to inform you that, due to the current weather conditions, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our Family Fest.
Unfortunately, some of the planned activities cannot go ahead safely in the forecasted conditions.
The event will now take place next Tuesday after school instead: Tuesday 30th June 2026 (not July as mentioned in the email. We will blame the heat for that one)
We appreciate your understanding, as the safety and enjoyment of our pupils, families, and staff is always our top priority. We hope you will still be able to join us on the new date for what promises to be a great event.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you there.

Same again tomorrow ☀️ ☀️
As shared last week, if children would like to wear their England kits tomorrow, or another team’s colour, they are welcome to. 🏴
If PE kits are lighter and more comfortable, children may choose to continue wearing PE kits.
All children must bring a refillable water bottle as the temperatures are set to rise as we continue through the week. Some children arrived at school today without a drink or bottle. 💧 🧢
Thank you for your support.
Please see email for further details. ☀️ 💧

We always welcome extra help but we are urgently requiring extra helpers for Wednesday's FamilyFest event.
It is going to be hot!! We would like all our helpers to take breaks and not be stood for 2 hours plus the set up time in the ☀️.
If you are able to run a stall for 15-30 minutes during the event please do drop us an email. Full instructions will be given to you.
We appreciate this is a family event so you want to be with your children but please remember that our core volunteer team will not be with their families during this event and your help can change that for a short blast.
Thank you 🤞🥰

The PTA always do our best to run inclusive events.
All children yesterday took home a gift that was either a £2 paid gift or a small token gift/card for those without money. No one is left behind.
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to the staff within St John's who donate their own money to ensure all the children in their class take a paid gift home. This is going above and beyond, it's not expected but you wouldn't have it any other way.
Thank you 💙
