The mezzanine is up. The stairs are in place. The flooring is going down.

Underneath, the showers and changing rooms are taking shape, while a complete electrical rewire is also underway. We’re moving quickly and working through the jobs to stay on track for our soft opening on 1 September.

Extra hands are always appreciated. If you can spare an hour or two to help with labouring, building or taking away some rubbish, it would make a real difference.

Using Ash Williams’ sprung-floor design, we’ve made serious progress over the last day and a half.

We’ve now laid almost the entire 165m² (1,776 sq ft) training area.

We’ve used 6x1 timbers, with 2x4s in place of the shoe-storage sections, as we don’t need the storage underneath. We’ve also added 75mm insulation throughout the floor, which we’re hoping will make a noticeable difference during the winter months.

And this is only the base.

Once completed, the entire area will be covered with our brand-new 6mm mats, followed by white vinyl across the training surface.

Today we’ve also attacked the electrics and started putting everything in place for the mezzanine extension.

There’s still a lot to do, and we’ll be here for a few more hours yet, but considering we’ve only been at it for a day and a half, we’ve got through a huge amount of work.

MEMBERS — WE COULD USE YOUR HELP.

If you’ve got a spare bit of time and want to be massively helpful, stop by and grab a bag or two of rubbish to take away. Even taking a couple of bags would make a big difference to us right now.

🔑 WE’VE GOT THE KEYS.

We’ve been a bit quiet on the social media front recently — but that doesn’t mean we’ve stopped grinding, stopped working or stopped pushing forward.

Quite the opposite.

As of September, Praetorian MMA has a new home on Newgate Lane, Fareham.

A bigger space. A better facility. And the opportunity to build the gym we’ve wanted for a long time.

There is a serious amount of work to get through between now and opening, and we’ll be documenting the transformation as the new gym starts taking shape.

Before the belt, there were the hours nobody saw.

The drills. The rounds. The mistakes. The moments where understanding was made even harder by a language barrier, yet Artem never stopped turning up, listening, learning and improving.

This week, that hard work was recognised with his promotion.

Artem is one of those young people every coach is proud to have on the mats. He’s respectful, hardworking and treats everyone around him with kindness and consideration. He has earned the respect of his teammates through his attitude just as much as through his progress in training.

His character extends well beyond the academy. Last year, when confronted by a man attempting to steal his puppy, Artem showed remarkable courage. Despite being punched in the face, he stood his ground, fought back and took the attacker to the ground before the man managed to escape during the commotion. It wasn’t about fighting—it was about protecting something he cared about, and it showed the composure and resilience he has developed.

We’re incredibly proud of everything Artem has achieved so far, but this promotion isn’t the destination. It’s simply the next step in what we believe will be a long journey of growth, learning and success.

Congratulations, Artem. You’ve earned every bit of this.

Blue Belt Promotion – Cian

At just 16 years old, Cian has earned his blue belt through work, consistency and dedication.

He trains every day when possible, puts in extra sessions at the weekend, and has made a massive transformation over the past few months. That progress has come from listening, grafting and putting serious time on the mats.

Cian has trained under Rob, Nathan, Josh and myself, and each coach has seen the same thing: commitment, attitude and steady improvement.

He is also a leader among the teens. He competes, often without telling anyone he is going, turns up, tests himself and lets his actions speak.

Congratulations, Cian. A blue belt at 16 is not given lightly. You have earned it.

Blue Belt Promotion – Stephen

Stephen has been training for nearly three years, and on Monday night he rightly received his blue belt.

A few months ago he was close to this promotion, but a hernia forced him away from training. He recovered, got back on the mats as quickly as he could, and continued showing the same work ethic that had already brought him close.

Stephen has trained closely under Rob, and this promotion reflects the time, coaching and consistency they have put in together.

This belt was earned through hard work, patience and the way he responded to a setback.

Ollie is one of those people every club values.

Over more than two years of training, he has worked hard, stayed consistent and evolved massively on the mats. His Jiu Jitsu has improved, his confidence has grown, and his understanding of the game is clear to see.

Ollie has mostly trained under Rob, and his progress reflects that steady coaching, trust and time spent doing the work properly.

What stands out just as much is his character. Ollie is one of the nicest human beings you could meet and will always go out of his way to support others.
