Thank you to all the volunteers who came to support our event at Alverstoke New Parish Centre this month.

All records are entered into The Restart Project database, which we use for standardised data collection. This month, 18 items arrived at the Repair Cafe. 12 went home fixed, taking our lifetime total to 2640 kg of waste prevented.

Almost anyone can help in some way; you don't need to be an expert repairer (though you're welcome). There are many ways to support your community, including making social media posts and welcoming guests. We host 11 events a year on the second Saturday of each month. You don't need to commit in advance; come along and take part once you've signed up as a volunteer. Message us or come along to an event for a chat.

Almost every event, we help someone make their sewing machine work when they have been having difficulties. This machine has been used with weak thread that keep snapping and had jammed the machine. Cleaning it out and demonstrating with some stronger thread, got it working again.

The most common problem with toasters is crumbs inside that stop it from turning on when the lever is pushed down. However, some models can be tricky to open up and give a good clean. At our last event, this toaster took a few different volunteers to help dismantle it, clean it up and get it fixed.

At our last event 78% of the items our guests brought along got fixed. The next best thing is to investigate and explain the barriers to getting something fixed. A greater understanding of why things can not be fixed can help bring about the changes needed to stop more things from being thrown away.

The circuit board inside this fan was burnt out, and a bespoke part that can not be bought, so the whole item needs to be recycled.

Printers are often very difficult to fix, but we always try. Our team removed the LEGO that was stopping this printer from working properly, but unfortunately, it still would not feed paper properly afterwards.
