The “Basil Bird” clean air day treasure hunt was a popular activity this week. By visiting each of the eight Basils hidden around the field most of those that took part managed to answer the questions and solve the anagram winning a WoW badge. We are lucky to have such a glorious field and woody walk in which to play and explore. Our thanks to the organisers for a great event for the Children.

On Monday, we launched our next EPIC skill, focusing on Collaboration.
Taking inspiration from the animal kingdom, we discovered just how
remarkable geese are at collaborating. Flying in their iconic ‘V’ formation,
each bird helps carry the others towards a shared destination. When one
struggles, two others drop back to support it. Leadership is shared, with
each goose taking a turn at the front, and even their ‘honking’ plays a role
– not as a noise, but as encouragement to keep one another going.
Back in the classroom, we put these ideas into practice through a
collaborative challenge. Working in teams, we were tasked with moving a
tennis ball using only the tip of a pen. It wasn’t easy – at times it was
quite frustrating – but it brought to life the importance of working together,
communicating clearly, stepping into leadership roles and offering positive
encouragement.
It was a powerful reminder that, just like the geese, we achieve more
when we support one another.

Are you available on the afternoon of Thursday 21st May, would you would be willing to volunteer some of your time to visit our school and speak to our Year 6 pupils about your career.
As part of the PDL curriculum this half term, Year 6 pupils will be exploring future career aspirations, with the aim of encouraging them to consider their ambitions and long-term goals. To support this learning, we are planning to host a Careers Fair on Thursday 21st May from 1:30pm to 2:30pm, during which pupils will have the opportunity to speak with professionals from a wide range of sectors about different careers and what they entail.
In previous years, visiting speakers have chosen to bring practical activities, resources, photographs or informational materials to support their discussions. These have been greatly appreciated and have helped to engage the pupils; however, this is entirely optional.
This year, the pupils have expressed particular interest in a variety of career areas, including (but not limited to): police, armed forces, mathematician, architect, air hostess, doctor, actor/actress, chef, comedian, artist, firefighter, lawyer, nurse, therapist, hairdresser, sportsperson, beautician or beauty therapist, mechanic, plumber, neurosurgeon and marine biologist. We would, however, be delighted to welcome professionals from any field, and participation from all sectors is very much encouraged.
If you would be willing to volunteer approximately one hour of your time to speak with the pupils about your career, we kindly ask that you contact the school office at [email protected] by Friday 9th May.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
