Can this students work be selected by Origins Creatives to showcase in London ? 🙏
This piece is inspired by the carnival celebrations in Trinidad and Tobago to showcase the
freedom and spirit of carnival. The paint has been inspired by the celebration of J’ouvert that
happens during carnival where colourful paint is thrown to signify defiance against those that
stand over you, and I have used it as a symbol of individuality and self-expression. The corset
is made out of denim with cotton bias binding woven over it and it leads into these long
strands that have wire sewn into it to allow me to create these big sculptural shapes. These
strands range from lengths of 60cm-150cm and the whole corset weighs around 2kg. The low
waisted trousers are made of a black polycotton fabric that is lightweight. They’re a wide leg fit
with a button at the top and are approximately 1m long
