Accents are a great thing to practise whether you are just starting to learn the drums or have been playing for a while. They can help strengthen your music reading skills as well as your hand technique. Throw different hi-hat patterns into the mix and you then start creating some awesome sounding drum beats.

I have created a free PDF version of this post to allow you to start practising accents. These hi-hat patterns increase in difficulty as you go along. My advice to you is to start slow and then begin speeding them up as you get more comfortable. As always, feel free to get in touch if you struggle with any of these. I often get asked questions about practice pads. Do I need one? Which one do I get? etc. My answer is always yes. Practice pads have personally helped me develop hand technique and allows me to keep up practicing whilst I'm away from a kit. The Donner 12" practice pad is one that I have and I find it great to use. It has a big enough practice area but it's still easily portable! Would 100% recommend ✌️ 😄
