iStep into School 🌟
School readiness looks different for every child.

Some children will feel excited, others may need a little more reassurance, and both are completely normal. Every child develops at their own pace.

A few gentle ways to support the transition include:
β€’ Remembering that every child settles differently.
β€’ Practising short separations where appropriate.
β€’ Keeping goodbyes positive and reassuring.
β€’ Talking positively about starting school.
β€’ Celebrating the things your child can already do.

Starting school is a big milestone for the whole family, and it's perfectly normal for parents to feel emotional too.

Because school readiness isn't about reaching a finish line – it's about taking the next step with confidence.

Little Routines, Big Confidence 🌟

Simple routines at home can make all the difference:
πŸ‘• Laying out clothes the night before.
πŸ•’ Using a visual timetable for morning routines.
πŸ™Œ Encouraging children to do things independently where possible.
πŸ§₯ Practising putting on coats and shoes.
β˜€οΈ Allowing plenty of time for calm, unhurried mornings.

Children thrive when they know what to expect. Predictable routines help build confidence and create a positive start to each day.

A Love of Stories 🌟

One of the greatest gifts we can give children before they start school is a love of books and stories.

Why not try:
β€’ Finding a cosy spot to read together.
β€’ Letting your child turn the pages.
β€’ Using different voices for characters.
β€’ Talking about the pictures and asking questions.
β€’ Making story time part of your daily routine.

The stories they hear today help shape the confident learners they'll become tomorrow. ✨

You simply need to know that you'd like to explore your options.

iStep into School 🌟

Did you know that some of the best preparation for school looks just like play?

Many of the skills that help children feel confident when they start school develop naturally through everyday play and experiences at home.

Try simple activities such as:
✏️ Recognising and spotting their name.
πŸ”’ Counting toys, stairs or pieces of fruit.
🎨 Colouring, drawing and making marks.
🧩 Playing with playdough or threading activities.
βœ‚οΈ Building hand strength through cutting, sticking and creative play.

At nursery, these experiences are woven into each day through purposeful play, helping children build confidence, curiosity and a love of learning.

Sometimes the little things really do make the biggest difference.

iStep into School - Growing Independence 🌟

School readiness isn't about children being able to do everything on their own. It's about having the confidence to give things a go, ask for help when they need it and feel proud of their achievements.

There are lots of simple ways to encourage independence at home:
🚽 Encouraging toilet routines throughout the day.
πŸ₯ͺ Practising opening lunchboxes and snack pots.
🍽️ Letting your child carry their own plate to the table.
🧼 Supporting handwashing and dressing themselves.
πŸŽ’ Giving them little responsibilities, such as packing their nursery bag or putting their shoes by the door.

At nursery, we know that independence grows through everyday moments. From pouring their own drink to putting on their coat, these small achievements help children build confidence, resilience and a real sense of "I can do it".

Because school readiness isn't about doing everything perfectly, it's about feeling ready to take the next step. ✨
