We’ve been looking for ways to help the children access our garden more independently and with less waiting around. Some shoes can be quite tricky for little hands to put on, so we’ve invested in a basket of garden Crocs!

These are quick and easy for the children to slip on themselves, waterproof for all our outdoor adventures, and help us get outside faster to enjoy learning through play in the fresh air.

Supporting children to manage their own footwear encourages independence, confidence, and self-care skills—important aspects of the EYFS. Best of all, it means more time exploring, discovering, and having fun outdoors!

The Little Owls were thrilled to be invited to the grand opening of the new playground today! This is something the children have been eagerly awaiting, and we can’t wait to enjoy all the wonderful play, learning and adventures it will bring.

A huge thank you to Chiddingfold Parish Council for all their hard work, dedication and commitment in making this fantastic community space a reality. It is a wonderful addition to our village and will be enjoyed by so many children for years to come.

Next week, we will be looking at Healthy Eating Week through our love of stories, using the beautiful book Handa’s Surprise as inspiration for our learning.

Together, we will explore African and Somali culture, discover some of the amazing animals that live in Africa, and delve deeper into the story through a range of exciting, child-led activities. The children will have the opportunity to taste a variety of healthy fruits, try new foods, and develop their confidence in making healthy choices.

Which fruit do you think will be the children’s favourite? Huge thanks to family and friends who have hunted high and low for guava fruit for us this weekend who knew it was so hard to find!

We now have Little Link ID lanyards for all of our Little Owls. These fantastic cards securely hold essential emergency contact and medical information, ensuring we have vital details immediately to hand whenever they are needed.

This adds another layer to our strong safeguarding culture and commitment to keeping children safe at all times.

Today we planted some lovely tomato plants that were kindly gifted to us by a neighbouring allotment holder. The Little Owls enjoyed helping to find the perfect spot for them and learning about how fruits and vegetables grow.

With all the rain we’ve been having lately, nature has been helping us with the watering, so there was no need for the watering cans today! 🌧️💚

We also spent some time watching the bees visiting our bee and butterfly garden, which we created in celebration of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday. The children loved observing the busy bees as they moved from flower to flower, helping to pollinate the plants around us. 🐝🦋

We can’t wait to watch our tomatoes grow over the coming weeks and hopefully enjoy tasting the fruits of our labour later in the summer. 🍅🌱
