Year 6 planning

I love planning…!! It’s been raining all day & I’ve loved just sitting here thinking of how I can make learning fun & engaging.

I’ve chosen to use the book ‘The Explorer’ by Katherine Rundell - it’s a fantastic high quality text for upper KS2. Plus did you know that a couple of years ago it happened! In REAL life! (We’ll also do a newspaper article autumn 2)

But here is a brief summary of what I’ll be covering in Autumn 1 term.

✔️ low stakes activity to start as review/revisit
✔️ SPAG activity
✔️ Reading comprehension-VIPERS skills
✔️ creative writing activity
✔️FUN!

Lesson planning English ✏️

I’ve been looking at the year 5 and 6 English planning today and thinking about using a book every term as focus. This half term it will be The Explorer by Katherine Rundell.

Each week starting with a spelling, punctuation or grammar starter and then using those skills in our creative writing.

Very wet first run of 2024! Thanks for encouraging and inspiring. Using the app which is fab! Very slow but steady -aiming for 1/2 runs a week plus my 15 mins.
I’ve NEVER liked running because it was always about speed and pace. I run slower than slow… but love being outside & clearing my head.

Tricky words

This is a repost from before, but it’s still a really quick effective way to practice spellings.

Simply get a piece of card, then write words on it. Then either use corks with paint or paint sticks to colour them. Here I’ve colour coordinated to match colour to word.

Save for later on in term or a little activity for an afternoon!

My youngest starts school in September 😭I can’t believe it!

These are some of the things that I’m doing with her to make sure she’s ready for school.

📚 self care- practising coats, shoes, pe kits etc

📚 toilet - washing hands

📚 recognition of name

📚 walking to school

📚 reading going to school books

📚 practising writing name

📚 enjoy the summer hols!!
