The hardest races often teach the most....

Today’s Medal Monday is about the quiet kind of toughness that doesn’t show up in race photos. Cardiff threw everything at Philippa, heat, cramp, heavy legs and she still chose to stay in it and finish. That’s the kind of mindset that actually moves you forward.
She’s already turned the page, already rebuilding, and already getting ready for the Great South Run, in just 2 weeks!

A hard day doesn’t define her, how she responds to it does šŸ’•

If you need help rebuilding after disappointment, I'm right by your side.

Easy 30 today with 4 Ɨ 20s strides (60s recovery) keeping the legs awake without adding fatigue.

Strides build neuromuscular sharpness: quicker coordination, cleaner rhythm, better timing.

One intentional rep is enough to reinforce the pattern.

Swipe → to see the stride data and how that one rep shows up in the numbers then drop a comment:

What do you notice in the pace?

Some parts of ultra‑running you can prepare for… and some parts you can only understand once you’ve lived them.

Post‑race recovery is one of those chapters.
The quiet days.
The emotional dip.
The data that looks nothing like how you think you feel.
The strange mix of pride, fatigue, and stillness.

The latest episode, The Truth About Post‑Ultra Recovery, is me unpacking all of that.

What really happens to your body and mind after 50 miles, and why giving yourself grace in this phase matters more than you think.

Thoughtful Thursday.

Post‑ultra recovery isn’t just sore legs, iit’s nervous system fatigue, HRV dips, mood shifts, and that strange ā€œwhy do I feel flat?ā€ phase every runner knows. This week’s podcast episode, The Truth About Post‑Ultra Recovery, breaks down what’s actually happening inside your body after a big race… and why your data looks terrible even when you feel okay.
If you want clarity, confidence, and a smarter way to rebuild after an ultra, this one’s for you.

Turns out the NLRC pink really is unmissable.
Owen Kimber called it, and Siobhan proved it with our very own Pink Panther cameo.
This team brings the brightest energy: support, laughs, and the kind of joy that makes every run feel lighter.
I love this team. Team NLRC

Recovery isn’t passive, it’s physiological.
After a run, your muscles rely on improved blood flow, reduced mechanical load, and lower ground‑reaction forces to speed up repair.
That’s why what you do after training matters just as much as the session itself.
These recovery slides support that process by reducing impact through the foot and lowering stress on the plantar fascia and achilles.
Less load → better circulation → faster tissue recovery.
Small interventions like this compound across a training week.

Medal Monday šŸ„‡
Starting the week with a huge one!

Guy stepping up at the Vitality and ripping 27 seconds off his 10km PB.
PB bell rung.
Four new records set. 1km, 1 mile, 5km and 10km!

His words: ā€œI am well stoked!ā€
And honestly… so are we.

He’s the only official medal winner this weekend but medals aren’t what define excellence here. It’s the effort, the attitude, the showing up, and Guy showed up in every way.

The best part?
He sent a video straight after asking, ā€œEveryone’s in their NLRC shirts, how do I get mine?ā€

That’s team spirit. That’s belonging. That’s exactly what this community is built on.

Super proud of him. The run the PB, the energy, the commitment, the desire to be part of the crew.

A brilliant start to the week.
