WHY ARE WE CARRYING OUT THIS STUDY?
The safety of the sport of eventing has been at the forefront of both research and the media in recent years and many implementations have been made such as frangible pins, air jackets and amendments of course design.
Similarly much work has been done on the biomechanics of the horse, and the horse's fitness. However little research has been done on the rider. Any research that has been done on the rider previously has been done mainly on dressage riders and some show jumpers.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the riders two point position, and fatigue in the quadriceps of the rider to analyse and assess how this changes and adapts over time. The aim is to provide results that will help riders and coaches to better understand rider fitness, possibly change training methods in the future which could help improve the safety of event riders across country.
