In the lead up to the end of term our students were busy enjoying a variety of exciting activities!

Our primary provision had a sweet adventure at Cadbury’s World, exploring, learning, and enjoying all the chocolatey fun. A fantastic way to celebrate the end of term! 🍫✨
Meanwhile, at our secondary girls' provision, students put their STEM skills to the test with an Easter-themed egg drop challenge! They designed and built containers to protect their eggs, and after testing, almost all eggs survived. Well done to everyone for their creativity and problem-solving. 🔧💡

Across all school provisions, students enjoyed craft projects, sensory activities, and hands-on learning adapted to individual learning needs. We wish all our students, staff, and families a restful and enjoyable break, and we look forward to seeing everyone back next term! 💙

Last week was World Book Day, but at Hartmore we decided to spend a whole week celebrating our love of all things literature, with a week full of reading, creativity, and fun! Students explored their favourite stories, shared their top books in class, and took part in activities designed to spark imagination and foster a love of reading. 📖💙

Engaging children with books is about more than just reading, it encourages creativity, curiosity, and confidence, and helps develop a lifelong love of learning.

Our primary team went all out, dressing up as characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - Can you guess who’s who? 🍫

🎉 Hartmore School Launches New Outreach Provision 🎉

We are proud to share the launch of our Outreach Provision, a flexible, personalised approach to support young people who are currently able to attend school on site.

At Hartmore, we understand that every child’s journey into education is unique. For some, coming into a school setting is not always possible, and our Outreach Provision allows us to meet students where they are. Extending support beyond the school gates into homes and local communities.

We are delighted to welcome Amy, our Outreach Provision Teacher, to the Hartmore team. Amy works closely with class teachers, parents, and carers to create programmes tailored to each young person. This may include live online lessons, one-to-one tutoring, and relationship-building check-ins, all designed to bridge the gap between our on-site learning and the individual needs of each student.

Through Outreach, we hope to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and help students re-engage with learning in ways that feel safe, achievable, and meaningful.

A warm welcome to Amy, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this new provision will have for our Hartmore students and their families. 💙✨

Wrapping Up Llanrug Residential. An Unforgettable Week! ⛰️💙

Day 4 was kicked off with a woodland walk to Lions Rock, where pupils took on rock climbing challenges where the views just kept getting better. 360° panoramas of Llyn Padarn and snow-capped Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in glorious sunshine made it a truly breathtaking experience. After lunch, it was time to brave the cold waters at Dinas Dinlle for some bodyboarding! Waves of all sizes brought laughter and full-on fun. Everyone gave it a go, and every pupil finished with huge smiles! Back at the centre, pupils enjoyed some free time and then tackled evening problem-solving challenges, including Spiders Web, Wall of Doom, and Tower of Hanoi. As always, the day finished with hot chocolate and cake, a team debrief, and our Star of the Week nominations 🏆

Friday brought our final morning, finished with a beautiful mountain walk, exploring streams, jumping, scrambling, and taking turns leading the group. Pupils demonstrated incredible leadership skills, teamwork, and resilience, navigating the water-filled terrain with confidence. Lunch at the base included fire building and toasted marshmallows, a perfect ending to an action-packed adventure before the drive home.

This week has been about so much more than just activities. It has been amazing to watch each of our pupils push themselves, overcome apprehensions and grow their self-belief. Pupils have embraced resilience, teamwork, leadership, and confidence, and we hope they carry these life skills forward into their next adventures, challenges, and steps in life. 🙌🏼✨

Also a huge shout-out to our amazing teaching team, who’ve spent the week getting stuck in with every activity, supporting the pupils, and helping them develop skills beyond the classroom. 💙

Midweek Updates from Llanrug Residential. ⛰️🙌🏼💚
What an incredible couple of days our pupils have been having!

Day 2 took us underground for a full day exploring the slate mines at Rhiwbach ⛏️
Pupils tackled an epic route deep below the surface, using ropes and harnesses to climb steeper sections, abseiling between levels, crossing flooded chambers via zip lines, and carefully navigating exposed traverses using rope systems. At one point, they even rafted across underground water to reach the next tunnel! The courage, trust and determination on display was outstanding. After dinner, the challenges continued with the Nightline, working in pairs, pupils were blindfolded (or eyes closed!) and guided each other through an obstacle course of tyres, trees and even a slide - relying entirely on communication and teamwork. The day was finished perfectly with hot chocolate and cake. ☕

Day 3 brought a mountain-sized challenge 🏔️
The group climbed Carnedd y Ffiliast, no easy task at the best of times and made even tougher by unexpected winds of up to 40mph. Despite this, every pupil dug deep, showed immense resilience, and reached the summit at 821 metres! An incredible achievement they should be extremely proud of. Once safely down, spirits were still high as we headed to Llyn Padarn for a group rafting session, enjoying time on the water together with the stunning, snow-covered Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon) as the backdrop ❄️

Across the first half of the week each pupil has shown strength, determination, resilience and character, pushing themselves beyond what they thought possible and surprising us all. We’ve seen sides of them we hadn’t seen before, and it’s been truly inspiring, and with another two days to go we are excited to see what is next. 💙🎉

Day One in Llanrug! 🙌🏼⛰️💚

Our Key Stage 4 pupils have arrived safely in Llanrug this afternoon, the group were warmly welcomed by the centre staff and our course leader, Hollie at Arete Outdoor Centre Llanrug. Pupils headed straight to their dorms, made their own beds, and took part in a short briefing to learn all about the centre and what the week has in store.

Then it was straight into adventure! Fully kitted up, they jumped into the minibus for a scenic mountain drive before heading out weaselling - above ground caving – navigating over, under and around rocks and boulders. The pupils showed fantastic teamwork, resilience and determination throughout, and had an amazing time.

After a busy afternoon, it was back to the centre to sort equipment, enjoy a well-earned shower, and sit down for tea. This evening, they’re heading out for a local walk to round off an action-packed first day.

We have had a brilliant start to the trip and are looking forward to the week ahead! 🌟

🧦✨ Anti-Bullying Week 2025: Power for Good! ✨🧦

This week our students have been taking part in Anti-Bullying Week, exploring what it means to use our Power for Good in school, in friendships, and in our wider community.

We’ve embraced Odd Socks Day, poster-making, poetry, and lots of thoughtful conversations about kindness and respect. We also added a touch of Harry Potter magic by learning about Dobby the house elf, who despite being mistreated, remained brave, kind and loyal. His story reminds us that even those who feel small can create big change… and of course, we couldn’t forget his love for socks! 🪄🧦

By joining schools across the country in marking Anti-Bullying Week, we encourage every individual to express themselves and celebrate what makes them unique. Building an environment where everyone feels safe to be themselves and confident in supporting others to do the same. 💙
