Just a reminder that the Readathon started on 4th April and finishes on 29th April. Don’t forget that students can read anything they like, from comics to classics and audio books to blogs, as it is all about reading for fun. Sponsorship, no matter how big or small will make a huge difference - £1 goes a long way! Payments can be made online at:

https://readathon.secure.force.com/sponsor

Alternatively, cash and cheques can also be placed in an envelope along with the sponsor card. The envelope should be addressed to the library and also have the student’s name on it. Cheques should be made payable to Read for Good with the sponsor’s name and address on the back.

The money raised will help to provide books and storyteller visits for children in hospital and our library will receive free books worth 20% of the sponsorship total.

Happy Reading to all those who are taking part!

Russel the regional development chef from Aspens delivered a workshop to the year 10 GCSE food groups yesterday. He explained how different types of taste work in harmony, such as sweet and sour . Did you know that our taste buds regenerate every two weeks and this affects how we enjoy our food? The students looked at a variety of ingredients and discussed what categories that they fit in concluding with a taste test of the ingredients, including cabbage, marmite, olives, miso paste, melons and high grade chocolate .

Russel also talked about careers in the food and hospitality industry.

Year 10 Careers/Post 16
What next ?

Year 10 students have recently viewed a story telling theatre production to help with decisions on their futures and career choices. Key messages included which subjects to choose for BTEC or A Levels, what careers and learning pathways are available, how apprenticeships work and who are they suitable for.

Well done to Y8 students who competed in the District Netball Tournament earlier this week. They all played brilliantly throughout the tournament and narrowly missed out on a semi final, it was so close it had to be decided by goal difference.

25/03/2022

Yesterday three students represented Barnwood Park School at the G15 Celebration of Success at Gloucester Cathedral. Scarlett, Abbie and Chelsea performed a beautiful three part harmony version of ‘Timshel’ by Mumford and Sons. The evening was a fabulous celebration of the Performing Arts and a wonderful demonstration of the talent in all of the G15 schools and institutions. This was the first time the event has taken place since before COVID-19 hit in 2020, and it was good to be back!

Earlier this week Barnwood Park hosted the Panathlon Festival. KS1 pupils from 11 local primary schools took part in a range of skills based, inclusive activities aimed at developing key fundamentals through running, jumping, throwing and target-based games. Barnwood Park GCSE PE students managed the activity stations and helped pupils complete the challenges.

About us

We offer you a warm welcome to Barnwood Park. Education is about enjoying the journey and not just racing to the destination. Youngsters need to be challenged and stimulated, whilst feeling happy, safe and secure. This will enable them to develop the confidence and maturity to make the most of the opportunities available to them so that they can maximise their potential and grow into effective members of society.

Staff at the school are committed to ensuring that the students at Barnwood Park are challenged and supported through inspiring and motivating, high quality teaching and learning across all subjects, ages and abilities through a well-balanced curriculum which offers maximum opportunities for success.

It is important that the students feel that their voice is important and listened to, and we aim to develop this in all areas of their school life so that they can develop a sense of pride in themselves and their school. We expect to see very high standards, whether it be through work ethic, behaviour or uniform. These high standards must be reflected in everything we do.

We very much look forward to meeting you and your son or daughter and working with you both as they grow and develop into a successful young adult, equipped for life.
