Gertrude Ederle - 100 YEARS!

Tomorrow, August 6, 2026, marks the 100th anniversary of Gertrude Ederle becoming the first woman to swim the English Channel. To celebrate this historic achievement, there will be the official opening of the Trudy Ederle exhibition at the Dover Museum.

Key details for the event:

- Opening Date: Tomorrow, August 6, 2026.
- Public Access: Attendees are welcome to view the exhibition starting after 12:00 PM.
- Duration: The display will remain open throughout the summer and potentially beyond.

At just 19 years old, Ederle not only conquered the Channel but also surpassed the times of the five men who had successfully completed the swim before her. We hope you can come and look at the exhibition during your stay in Dover.

Swimming lessons aren’t just about learning to swim!!

Tonight’s Extraordinary Council Meeting resulted in a unanimous vote to approve the maintenance plan for Stratford Park Outdoor Pool — and we are absolutely over the moon. !! 🌊💙🏊

After months of campaigning, community action and incredible public support, we’ve saved the lido.💙

This has never just been about a pool. It’s about health, wellbeing, water safety, community, memories and protecting a much-loved space for future generations.

We want to thank every single person who supported the campaign — everyone who signed petitions, attended meetings, contacted councillors, shared posts, spoke to the media and stood with us throughout this journey.💙

This result shows what can happen when a community comes together and refuses to give up.

Now let’s get those gates open and welcome swimmers back as soon as possible. ! 🏊☀️🏊

More than 30 Honorees and 100 other guests are starting to head to the IMSHOF Induction & Awards Ceremony in San Diego.

Printed booklets, certificates, sashes, awards.....and even stick on Ederle decals (for all attendees) are being packaged up for the trip...
