We had a splendid afternoon at Gloucestershire Academy of Music thoroughly exploring the Cheltenham Festivals gamelan with the expert guidance of Eb Elis
We’re preparing to relaunch our regular Tuesday evening sessions starting this week - Tues 12th September and are currently welcoming new members.
No experience required, just message us for details if you’d like to give it a try.
What exactly is gamelan music? What do you do in your gamelan sessions? These are both questions we've had from friends and family when we enthused about our Tuesday evenings in pre-covid times!
To answer it - here's a short clip taken from a performance we did at the Gloucester Tall Ships Festival back in 2019. We teamed up with some additional players and singers from groups in Bristol & Oxford for this event, so it was a great opportunity to socialise as well as play music together.
New Youth Gamelan Group starting up next week! Send your stressed out teenager for some gong therapy on a Tuesday evening. Here's Chris, one of our gamelan tutors to introduce some of the instruments.
