📚 NEW Gloucestershire Grammar School info. Face:face tutoring Gloucester
At Positive Path Tutoring , we’ve been working hard to adapt our lessons as more information becomes available about the new FSCE Grammar School Entrance Exam.

Following the latest information released by the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools, we now know that knowledge and skills from other areas of the Year 5 curriculum will also have an important part to play.

In particular, children will encounter Critical Thinking questions within the Compass Paper, where they may need to draw upon their wider curriculum knowledge and use reasoning, interpretation and problem-solving skills. 🧭🧠

This is something we are delighted to have already been incorporating into our preparation at Positive Path Tutoring.

We have been encouraging our children to attend our additional Topic Sessions, where they have explored relevant content from across the Year 4 and Year 5 curriculum, matching their subject knowledge to the types of Critical Thinking questions they could encounter.

Our pupils have already explored topics including:

🌱 **Science** – including plants and other curriculum areas
🏛️ **History** – including the Romans and Ancient Greeks
🎨 **Art** – developing observation, interpretation and reasoning skills

Importantly, the children haven’t simply been learning facts. They have been encouraged to make connections between their curriculum knowledge and Critical Thinking questions.

They have created mind maps, discussed possible interpretations and produced in-depth written answers, explaining their reasoning and using their knowledge to justify their conclusions.

We believe this deeper approach to learning will be extremely valuable when children encounter multiple-choice questions in the entrance exam. By learning how to explore a question thoroughly and justify an answer now, they are developing the skills needed to analyse the available options, eliminate unsuitable answers and confidently select the most appropriate response when working under exam conditions.

Rather than simply teaching children how to answer a particular style of question, we want them to become confident, flexible thinkers who can apply what they know to something unfamiliar.

As further information about the new FSCE assessment becomes available, we will continue to adapt our lessons, Topic Sessions and practice materials to reflect the new requirements and give our pupils experience of the different challenges they may encounter.

🌟 At Positive Path Tutoring, preparation goes beyond practising questions. We are helping children build the knowledge, reasoning and confidence to think their way through them. 🌟

Hello. As you have probably all heard and seen the latest information released today. It is as I expected but its a relief to see it in writing.! At last! So my topic classes address the topic /compass paper - critical thinking questions around the other areas of the curriculum. I would advise all year 4 and 5 children to join a topic session (as well as a weekly English/maths session) so all bases are covered for the new FSCE exam.

It’s been a busy week at Positive Path Tutoring in Gloucester as our Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 children preparing for the 11+ work through their assessments. 🌟

Alongside assessments, we’ve been keeping our sessions practical, engaging and tailored to each child.

🔢 We’ve been learning about PLACE VALUE and using Numicon to help demonstrate partitioning and really understand the value of each digit.

✖️ Another child has been brushing up on his TIMES TABLES, building speed, accuracy and confidence.

Every child learns differently, so our face-to-face tuition is adapted to meet them where they are and help them make positive progress. 💫
