π That's a Wrap! Happy Summer, Finlay Community! π
Well... that's 2025/26 done and dusted! π
I genuinely can't believe another academic year has flown by so quickly. What a year it has been!
As a school community, we've achieved so much together. We became a Voice 21 Centre of Excellence, achieved the incredible OPAL Platinum Play Award and most importantly, continued to provide the very best opportunities for our children.
None of this happens by accident. It happens because of the incredible people who make up our Finlay community.
π To our wonderful Year 6 pupils - what a fantastic group of young people you are. We are so proud of each and every one of you. You've certainly left your mark on Finlay! Good luck as you begin your next adventure at secondary school.
π To our families β thank you. Thank you for your continued support, encouragement and trust throughout the year. We are incredibly lucky to have such a supportive community behind us.
π To our staff β you are simply incredible. Your dedication, care and commitment to our children never go unnoticed. You have more than earned a well-deserved summer break. Over the holidays our staff will be switching off, spending time with their own families and recharging their batteries, so emails may not be responded to until we return in September.
Our Whole School Picnic and OPAL Celebration was the perfect way to finish the year. Seeing children, families and staff laughing, playing and celebrating together was a wonderful reminder of what makes Finlay such a special place.
We're also looking forward to welcoming all of our new Finlay families joining us in September. We can't wait for you to become part of our amazing school community.
π
A quick reminder:
β’ INSET Days β Tuesday 1st & Wednesday 2nd September
β’ All pupils return to school β Thursday 3rd September
Until then... have the most wonderful summer. Make memories, enjoy adventures, have a well-earned lie in (if your children allow it! π), let's hope the sunshine sticks around, and most importantly, look after one another.
Thank you for making another year at Finlay so special.
Academic Year 2025/26... over and out! π€
I honestly can't believe it's over already.
Happy Summer Holidays, everyone! βοΈπ

π New sports trophy award! π
Every year, all children at Finlay compete in their sports teams to win the Sports Day Cup! This year, π΅ Holland were our champions, as announced in a previous post.
This year, a NEW trophy has been introduced - the Intra-School House Cup. Children in Years 2-6 have taken part across the year in competitions in various team sports they have been learning in PE:
πͺYear 2 - benchball
β½οΈ Year 3 - football
π Year 4 - netball
π Year 5 - tag rugby
π Year 6 - rounders
The results of each half-termly competition have scored points for each team, with a running total on our corridor sports display.
π€© As the competitions progressed, the overall lead kept changing between π΅ Holland and π’ Tindall. After the final competitionβs completion, there were only 10 points between the two top teams.
And the first ever Intra-School House Cup champions areβ¦ π₯π₯π₯

π Sports Captains! π
π With this yearβs Sports Captains coming to the end of their time at Finlay, the time has come for new Sports Captains to be chosen. Alfie, Sara, Ashton, Sienna, Leilo, Muna, Nathan and Zuzia have all been such fantastic Sports Captains for their respective teams; they will be big boots to fill for our new Captains!
π 24 of the current Year 5s filled in an application to be one of the new Sports Captains, but only 8 could be chosen to lead their teams next year.
Congratulations to our new Sports Captains:
π΅ Holland: Teddie and Annabel
π‘ Teague: Ava and Jessie
π΄ Thomas: Jack and Amelia
π’ Tindall: Antony and Zofia

This morning, Year 2 children entered the Gloucester Primary Schools' benchball competition and for the first time ever we were allowed to bring two teams.
Team P finished with two wins and three very close losses while Team D managed three wins and two draws.
In the final standings, Team P finished 4th and Team D finished in 2nd place by one point and took home some silver medals.
Sickeningly, they drew against the eventual winners in their final game. Just one more goal scored, or one less goal conceded and they would have been champions.
Nevertheless, all of the children can be rightly proud of their efforts and it was very entertaining to see two Finlay sides go at it in a match for the first time as you can see in the pictures below!
Thanks go to Father Badats and Father Jaden for braving the minibus and cheering us on today.
