Join our Equestrian Research Club for an evening summit, Developing Sustainable Horse and Rider Combinations, with Erik Mackechnie-Guire. Erik will share his coaching approach, working with a variety of horse-rider combinations and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support performance and welfare.

Erik’s extensive experience spans from grassroots riders to British medal winners. He has supported Para Dressage athletes since the Sydney 2000 Paralympics, served as High-Performance Para Manager with Equestrian Australia, and now works as Para Pathway Manager at British Equestrian.

🎓PhD opportunity at Hartpury University! 📊

🐎 Hartpury University and the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a fees funded PhD project studying sport horse welfare during breeding using assisted reproductive techniques (ARTs).

Building on previous projects, this work aims to apply a holistic approach working with WBFSH and industry stakeholders to generate a profile of current practice in ART use across sport horse breeding, to understand cultural differences and influences underpinning ART use globally and to evaluate their implications to horse welfare.

This fees paid, full-time studentship is in Animal and Agriculture; it aims to examine in vitro commonly used pre and probiotics, essential oils and antimicrobials to ascertain the effect they have on the growth of Campylobacter and using cell culture will determine the impact gut barrier has on the prevalence of Campylobacter.

Campylobacter is the leading cause of bacterial foodborne illness worldwide and, though much is now understood about it and its interactions with the host (predominantly chickens), the prevalence of Campylobacter increases annually.
