About the FSCE Entrance Test for Year 7 Entry
🆕 The Gloucestershire Grammar Schools Entrance Test for entry into Year 7 in September 2028 will take place on Saturday 3rd July 2027. If your child is currently in Year 5 and wishes to apply for a place at a Gloucestershire Grammar School, they must take this test.

Registration will open on Monday 8th February 2027 (12 noon) and close on Friday 19th March 2027 (12 noon).

Following the Gloucestershire Grammar Schools announcement earlier this year the test provider will be Future Stories Community Enterprise (FSCE). The admissions test will consist of three FSCE papers:
🔹Adventure Paper: English and Maths, with Multiple Choice Answer options;
🔹Beacon Paper: English and Maths, where you respond with Short Written Answers;
🔹Compass Paper: any of the following subjects you learn at school: Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, English, Geography, History, Languages, Maths, Music, Physical Education, Science, with Multiple Choice Answer options.

A message to all my pupils…

Wishing you all the best as you sit your 11+ Entrance Exam tomorrow - I’ll be rooting for you.

You’ve worked so hard over the course of the year, practising and mastering new concepts. Now it is your chance to shine! ☀️

There’s no need to do excessive studying this evening. If you like to do something small then you could spend some time briefly recapping concepts, chatting with parents and/or siblings and sharing what you know:

-Recapping shape names and properties.
-Units of measure (how many mm there are in a cm).
-Formulas (area, perimeter, volume).
-Types of angle (acute, obtuse, reflex) and angle facts (angles in a straight line always add up to 180 degrees).
- Fraction percentages and decimal facts (1/5= 20%= 0.2).
-Word types (noun, verb, adjective, pronoun).
-Literary techniques (metaphor, similes, alliteration).
-Spend some time reading, defining unfamiliar words you encounter and consider/list near synonyms and/antonyms for this word.
-Recap punctuation marks and their uses.

Don't spend more than an hour on this. You need to rest your brain before the big day! Spend some quality time with your family playing games or watching a movie.

Try to go to bed relatively early and eat a hearty breakfast on the morning of the exam.

Read each question carefully. Try to take some deep breaths to help you stay calm. Remember, if a question feels a bit too tricky, don't panic. Move on and come back to it later. Try to systematically rule out options and narrow down your choices.

Most importantly, believe in yourself and your abilities. You are ready, and this is what you've been preparing for. 💪

I am running test paper sessions over the summer holidays with the following dates and times still available:

- Thursday 23rd July 5-6pm and 6:10-7:10pm,
- Monday 27th July 5-6pm,
- Thursday 30th July 6:10-7:10pm,
- Monday 3rd Aug 3:50-4:50pm and 5-6pm,
- Thursday 6th Aug 5-6pm and 6:10-7:10pm,
- Monday 10th Aug 5-6pm,
- Thursday 13th Aug 5-6pm and 6:10-7:10pm,
- Thursday 10th Sept 6:10-7:10pm.

Sessions are priced at £14 and are held at my house in Barnwood.

Pupils will have a large range of GL style papers to choose from. If they come across an unfamiliar question then 'Tutor Amy' will be there to help! At the end of each session pupils will be able to mark their paper and identify their strengths and areas for improvement.
