Netball: Our 1st VIl team competed in the U19 Gloucestershire County tournament this afternoon. With only four weeks as a team, we worked tirelessly in all games and produced some excellent results. Topping our pool with wins against Cheltenham College and Pate’s Grammar, we faced Crypt a well established and talented team. As expected it was a close game, tied at full time, the game went to golden goal with Crypt in possession and they scored. This meant we played off for 4th-6th place, where we again topped our pool beating Kings Gloucester and Pate’s Grammar, with impact players proving how much depth and versatility we have in the squad. Superb proud of the whole team, looking forward to the season ahead. Good Luck to Hartpury Netball and The Crypt School PE Department at Regionals. Garde Ta Foy!

We are incredibly grateful to both Nationwide UK and Mr Kadao (parent of one of our Year 8 pupils) for the recent grant of £10,000 from the Nationwide to the PTFA.

Mr Kadao, who is pictured here presenting the cheque for the grant to Headteacher Mr Lynch, works for the Nationwide Building Society and applied for the grant on the PTFA’s behalf; we are very pleased to announce that we are using the donation to foot the final payment for our solar panels, which were installed over the summer.

The support and hard work of parents and our PTFA volunteers has a massive impact on the school, and a huge thank you goes to Mr Kadao for going out of his way to help this to happen! The solar panels are forecast to provide up to 25% of our annual electricity, which will represent a significant saving on our bills and greatly increases our sustainability as a school site.

The improvements we make to the School and the opportunities we provide are made possible thanks to donations and grants, including from the PTFA, from organisations such as Nationwide, and from individual parents and alumni of course.

If you would like to contribute to the School’s long-term sustainability goals and make a one-off donation or pledge a regular monthly gift to us through The 1666 Fund, however small, we would really appreciate your support; it will make a huge difference to the generations of Richians still to come.

Our Year 13 Biology students experienced a three-day fieldtrip to the Field Studies Council Margam Discovery Centre near Port Talbot last week. During the course the students completed several Ecology required practicals; this included studying woodland biodiversity and sand dune succession. They also planned and carried out their own freshwater investigation. The visit brought classroom learning to life, giving students the chance to explore local ecosystems in a stunning natural setting.

FSC Margam Discovery Centre is a cutting-edge, eco-friendly building set within Margam Park – an 850-acre estate home to around 600 deer, including the rare Pere David species. The park is also one of Wales’s top bat habitats, nestled on the coastal plain and southern slopes of Mynydd Margam. With ponds, streams, woodlands, and grasslands all around, the centre is the perfect base for discovering a wide range of ecosystems.

Our School community came together on Friday evening for our annual Prize Giving, celebrating the achievements, hard work and dedication of our pupils.

All Year 7 pupils attended, giving them the opportunity to celebrate the successes of older pupils and be inspired by what lies ahead.

Tom Grogan, Chair of Trustees, welcomed guests before our Headteacher’s address and a keynote from Guest of Honour and Speaker, Rachel Thorpe, Head of Alcester Grammar School, who also presented the prizes.

School Captains Eilidh and Michael welcomed Ms Thorpe and gave the vote of thanks, while Harrison in Year 10, our Blue Coat Boy, presented her with a bouquet. The role is an honour awarded by the School, to a pupil who is held in high regard. The Blue Coat Boy wears the traditional uniform of Sir Thomas Rich’s Blue Coat Hospital, as the School was originally known; no mean feat for Harrison as the uniform itself dates back to the 19th century and is made of extremely thick and heavy wool!

The School Brass Band provided the music, and Year 7 pupils gave a spirited performance of the Tommy Psalm following diligent rehearsals.

Congratulations to all our prize winners and to every pupil whose hard work and determination has contributed to their success.

7C were the last Year 7 form to visit Stratford-upon-Avon for their residential trip, heading out on Monday and Tuesday this week. Much fun was had and friendships forged over the two days, which included the ever-popular mini golf, a walking tour, boat trips, MAD Museum and much more.

Lab 7 was transformed over the summer! The dated benches and equipment were ripped out (with the furniture all being recycled or sent to new homes), and a brand new, modern science facility emerged in its wake. The refurbished lab has already made a huge difference, and has been in full use since the start of term.
 
The improvements we make to the School and the opportunities we provide are made possible thanks to donations and grants, including from the Parent, Teacher and Friends’ Association (PTFA) and the Gloucester United Schools Charity, along with gratefully received funds raised through The 1666 Fund.
 
The 1666 Fund is our major development initiative, established to support projects and improvements that enhance the experience of pupils at the School, enabling us to provide the very best curricular and extracurricular opportunities, both now and in the future. The generosity of our supporters makes a real and lasting difference to what we can provide at Sir Thomas Rich’s.
