On the back of an incredible set of A Level results last week, we are delighted to be celebrating another brilliant day of GCSE success. An impressive 52% of all entries were awarded the top grades of 8 and 9, while 73% of grades achieved were at grade 7 or above, reflecting the remarkable achievements of our pupils.

Matthew Lynch, Headteacher at Sir Thomas Rich’s, said:

These results also reflect the unwavering support of parents and the dedication of our teachers and support staff, for which I am enormously grateful.

Most importantly, our Year 11 pupils have secured results of which they should be immensely proud. On behalf of everyone at Sir Thomas Rich’s, I congratulate them on all that they have achieved and wish them every success as they continue their academic journey."

We are incredibly proud to announce that The Times has ranked Sir Thomas Rich’s as 18th amongst state schools for A Level results, and 35th overall! This is a phenomenal achievement and a wonderful reflection of the hard work, commitment and determination of our students, supported by our dedicated staff.

Huge congratulations to all our Year 13 students on their exceptional A Level results today. The year group achieved an outstanding 58.3% of grades at A* and A, representing a remarkable 10 percentage point increase on last year’s results.

Performance at the highest levels was equally impressive, with 89.4% of all grades awarded at A* to B and the most common grade being an A grade.

These outstanding results are a testament to their hard work, determination, and resilience, as well as the invaluable teaching and support of our dedicated staff.

“Throughout their time at the School, our Year 13 students have embraced our core values of integrity, respect and perseverance, and today’s success reflects both their academic excellence and strength of character. As they embark on exciting new opportunities at university, apprenticeships and beyond, they leave us as proud Richians, and we look forward to hearing all about their future successes.

“I wish every one of our outgoing Year 13 students the very best for the next chapter of their journey.”

Huge congratulations to our U12, U13 and U15 cricket teams on winning their respective County Cup competitions. The U12s defeated The Crypt School by 72 runs, while the U13s beat Marling School by 9 wickets. The U15s also enjoyed a convincing victory, defeating Newent School by 91 runs to secure their County Cup title.

Congratulations also to our U15s, who reached the semi-finals of the Barclays Knights Stokes Cup at Headingley. Although they narrowly missed out on a place in the final at Lord's, they can be incredibly proud of their achievement after losing by just 42 runs to Altrincham Grammar School.

Finally, good luck to our U14s, who will play Cheltenham College in the County Cup Final in September. We wish them every success!

Our fantastic team of pupil volunteers in the Pop-Up Café have raised an amazing £537.45 this year through their hard work and dedication.

The funds will be divided between four charities:

💛 Winston's Wish
💚 Samaritans
🌻 Sunflowers

Thank you to all the pupils and staff who have supported the Pop-Up Café by purchasing healthy snacks, sweet treats and drinks for pocket money prices from Food Tech during selected lunchtimes and break this year.

The Pop-Up Café wouldn't be possible without the hard-working pupil volunteers. Through volunteering, they have developed valuable social, communication and business skills, while gaining confidence and making a positive contribution to the school community.

This week, we were delighted to award School Honours in assembly to twin brothers Thomas and William in Year 13. This prestigious award recognises exceptional academic achievement, resilience, endeavour, and a commitment to supporting others within our school community. Thomas and William have received this award due to their incredible stoicism, hard work and support for one another in the face of some distinct challenges. Both students embody everything that Sir Thomas Rich's School stands for, and they are thoroughly deserving recipients of this year's School Honours Award.

We say a fond farewell at the end of this term to Mr Thomsen, Miss Walton, Mr White, Ms Barr and Ms Leissom, as they successfully complete their teacher training with us.

During their placements, they have become valued members of our school community, demonstrating enthusiasm, commitment and professionalism in everything they have done. Alongside developing their teaching skills in the classroom, they have embraced every opportunity to get involved in school life, from supporting extra-curricular clubs and attending sports evenings to accompanying educational trips.

We would like to thank them for the positive contribution they have made to our school and for the time and energy they have invested in our pupils. We wish them every success and happiness as they begin the next stage of their teaching careers.

🥈Well done to Year 8 pupil Daniel, who finished his U13 squash season with an exceptional performance in the final at the 2026 Dutch Junior Open, one of Europe’s strongest junior tournaments. Daniel played an amazing final, showing resilience and grit, only narrowly losing out to take the second place spot in the tournament. An incredible achievement. Daniel is currently ranked number 2 nationally in Boys U13; his season has also included regular national competitions, county representation and selection for England’s Five Nations squad.
