🌅 Why wait until tomorrow to begin finding a little more peace?

Charlie Brown says, “Tomorrow I will begin my journey toward inner peace.” Snoopy’s simple answer—“Why not begin today?”—is a wonderful reminder that we don’t need to wait for the perfect time to begin.

Tai Chi has taught me that peace isn’t necessarily something we find somewhere in the future. We can begin cultivating it right now—with a few quiet breaths, a few mindful movements, or simply by taking a little time for ourselves.

As Ralph Waldo Emerson said:

“Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.”

That journey doesn’t have to begin tomorrow. It can begin today. ☯️

This is fantastic news for Tai Chi and Qigong!

I was really interested to read this article in The Guardian about what has been described as the largest review of its kind into the benefits of Tai Chi and other traditional Chinese exercises.

The review looked at an enormous body of research, including 92 evidence reviews covering 1,744 randomised controlled trials. It found high-certainty evidence that traditional practices including Tai Chi, Qigong and other Chinese exercises can have significant benefits for people with musculoskeletal conditions.

Some of the findings highlighted include improvements in:

✅ Physical function and mobility
✅ Chronic pain and stiffness
✅ Mental health and wellbeing
✅ Sleep quality
✅ Bone mineral density

The research also suggested that the greatest benefits were seen with regular, long-term practice – particularly when people practised for more than six months, around three times a week, building towards approximately 150 minutes per week.

As someone who teaches both Tai Chi and Qigong, none of this comes as a surprise to me. Over the years, I have seen how regular weekly practice can benefit so many members of my classes. Of course, everyone's experience is different, but I've watched people become more confident in their movement, improve their balance and mobility, feel calmer and more relaxed, and simply enjoy feeling more connected to their bodies and to a supportive community.

Tai Chi and Qigong aren't about becoming an expert overnight. One of the wonderful things about them is that you can start gently and develop your practice over time. Consistency is what really matters.

If you've been thinking about giving Tai Chi or Qigong a try, I have new beginner's courses starting in early September. They are suitable for complete beginners, so you don't need any previous experience.

🌿 A wonderful weekend in the Lake District 🌿

I’ve just returned from another fantastic Tai Chi & Qigong retreat surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Lake District.

A weekend of gentle movement, meditation, laughter, friendship and taking time to slow down, breathe and reconnect with nature.

It was wonderful to share the experience with such a lovely group of people. 💚

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the weekend so special. I’m already looking forward to our next retreat! 🙏☯️

The "Post-Tai Chi Glow" is Real: What Happens 2 Hours Later 🌸

Ever wonder what actually happens inside your body right after a Tai Chi or Qigong class?

It is not just in your head. Within just a few hours, your biology completely shifts:

Immune Boost: Your body mobilizes key white blood cells (like lymphocytes) to patrol and protect.

Stress Melt: Cortisol levels plummet, switching your nervous system from "fight" to "rest."

Heart Happy: Blood vessels relax, naturally lowering blood pressure and improving circulation.

Brain Fog Cleared: Deep breathing floods your brain with oxygen, leaving you calm yet laser-focused.

You don't have to wait months for results. Mind-body practice rewires your cellular health before you even leave the class. 🌿

💤 'I always sleep so much better after Tai Chi!'

This is one of the most common things I hear from my evening classes.

While everyone is different, there's good science behind why so many people notice this.

Tai Chi combines gentle exercise, mindful breathing and relaxation, helping to calm both body and mind after a busy day.

Research has shown that regular Tai Chi can improve sleep quality and reduce the time it takes to fall asleep.

So if you're looking for a gentle way to unwind after work, reduce stress and perhaps enjoy a better night's sleep, why not come and experience an evening class for yourself?

Move gently. Breathe deeply. Sleep better.

Evening beginners' classes start this September. Visit www.start-taichi.co.uk to find your nearest class.
