Hello, A huge thank you to all who came along to the activities in the big field yesterday afternoon. 2 jackets were left behind a George teal one age 9-10 and grey converse hoodie age 12-13. Also a pair of ladies sunglasses were left behind too.
I am finishing up at Southwood today and wanted to say a big thank you and goodbye to everyone for making my time here so very special. Southwood is a great school with super staff, the children are amazing and so very lucky to have such fabulous families around them.
I will miss you all, take good care of yourselves and look after each other.

Good Morning, delighted to say I am back in school for one more week. I have a number of activity packs available to be collected before 12 o'clock. There will be packs each week of the holidays and I will post details of when these can be picked up. Good Afternoon Southwooders!
It's fantastic to have the children back in school, there are a lot of happy faces today!
After the Easter break we will be launching our new website, this will replace the old style Fife Council one and will have direct links to all of the class SWAYS as well as our Twitter feed and this page.
We hope it will be a one stop shop where you can go to find out everything.
You will still be able to go directly to all of the SWAYS and social media separately but we hope you'll enjoy the new website, it will be live and responsive and much less "clunky".
We'll send you the web address when it is launched.
Hello, think this is worth checking out. Tracy, Family Worker
All NURSERY families should now have received an email with the link to our 'SOUTHWOOD NURSERY REMOTE LEARNING QUESTIONNAIRE FOR PARENTS'. This link is also on our weekly learning Sway. Your feedback is important to us and will help us to ensure that we can continue to provide the right support for you and your child at this difficult time. We would like to thank all those who have already responded to the survey, your feedback is much appreciated.
Please note that this questionnaire is only related to the remote learning experiences of the NURSERY CHILDREN.

It’s National Story Telling week, so we thought it would be useful to share some great tips about ways you can use books to support your child’s speech, language and communication skills. Books are a fun way to boost your child’s word knowledge. #banter4bairns #words4wed
Some parents have been asking about how best to support their child to develop writing skills. Children need to develop a variety of skills before they are able to hold a pencil for writing. This Sway will give you lots of advice and ideas to try. We hope you find it useful.

Some of the children who are in nursery have been learning about feeding the birds in winter. We have put together a pack so that all nursery children can make a bird feeder at home. You can collect your child's pack from the front entrance of the school.
PLEASE ADHERE TO SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDELINES AND WEAR A FACE COVERING WHILST YOU ARE IN THE SCHOOL GROUNDS.
This weekend is the #BigGardenBirdWatch. We have included some information about this in the pack. You can use the link below if you want to find out more. Please let us know if you take part and tell us how many birds you counted.
For any of our Nursery Families who are looking for ways to support their child's early writing development.

✍️ Learning to read and write happens in the real world, starting with family and friends - at home, and out and about.
✍️ Children learn about reading and writing from watching others. When they see adults reading and writing, and they talk together about it, children realise that spoken words can be written down, and then read by someone.
✍️ It helps children to understand this if they see reading and writing being used for a 'real' purpose, such as writing a shopping list.
✍️ Your child might like to help you write a note for a friend or neighbour, especially during lockdown. And if they're lucky, they might even get a note back in return
✍️ Children don't need to be able to write "properly" to do this (using correctly-formed letters or spelling) - it's about them making marks, as they learn to communicate in writing. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn the 'technical' side of writing - but wanting to communicate and to know that writing is meaningful, is just as important for children to learn. 🌞
Hiya awbody! 👋

Rhythm and rhyme: now’s the time Sharing rhymes can be a lovely alternative to singing, while still being beneficial to babies' development.
If you haven't picked up your child's Home Learning pack yet, you can do so during school hours and you will find it outside the front door of the school.
Please remember to wear a face covering and adhere to social distancing guidelines whilst in the school grounds.
