Headteacher Weekly Update – 30th August 2025
School Pupil Leadership
This week, we were delighted to continue allocating leadership roles to our Primary 7 pupils. Paige and Hary have now been appointed as our School Prefects.
As key representatives of our school, they will take on a range of important responsibilities, including greeting visitors, showing prospective pupils and families around the school, and helping to gather and share pupil voice across our community.
We are confident they will be excellent role models and ambassadors for our school. Congratulations to Paige and Hary on achieving these important leadership roles. We look forward to seeing them thrive in their new positions!
Our school leaders have been busy using their ipads to put together some informative and fun news clips. Look out for videos coming soon on the page.
PE Days
It has been great to see pupils all attend school in their smart school uniform every day. A reminder that pupils will need to bring a change of kit for the days that their class have PE. The days are as follows:
P1/2/3 – Tuesday and Thursday
P3/4- Tuesday and Wednesday
P4/5/6- Monday and Friday
P6/7 – Wednesday and Friday

Parent Involvement
A reminder that our first meeting of the year will take place in school on Tuesday 8th September from 3pm to 4pm in school, and we would be delighted to welcome new members. If you are interested in joining, please come along or if you have any questions, get in touch with us directly at school.

School Values
This week at assembly, we discussed our 3 school values – Ambitious, Kind and Respectful.
Each week, school staff will identify pupils who have shown these key values and pupils are rewarded with certificates.
This week, pupils were awarded certificates for being Ambitious. Well done to all these pupils!

Headteacher Weekly Update – 23rd August 2025

It has been a busy and positive first few days back at school, with all children settling into their new classes, getting used to routines, meeting new faces, and engaging in learning activities and assessments.

It has been wonderful to see everyone return looking refreshed, enthusiastic, and smart in their school uniforms.

School Leadership

We were delighted this week to allocate leadership roles to our Primary 7 pupils.

We know they will be fantastic role models for our younger pupils and will represent their houses with pride throughout the year. Our House Captains will also be sharing regular updates on our page. Keep an eye out for their first video, coming soon!

Parent Involvement

We are keen to have as many parents and carers as possible join us as we work in partnership with the school to strengthen our community and provide the best possible experiences for our children.

Our first meeting of the year will take place in school on Tuesday 8th September from 3pm to 4pm in school, and we would be delighted to welcome new members.

Over the past two years, we have been incredibly fortunate to receive fantastic support from the NPP, which has benefited our pupils and helped build strong links within the wider community. Last year, thanks to the group's fundraising efforts, all pupils enjoyed a pantomime at the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline and a visit to Dundee Science Centre.

These memorable experiences would not have been possible without the dedication and hard work of our Parent Partnership volunteers.

School performances

This year, we will be holding whole-school end-of-term services rather than individual classes being responsible for leading a service.

Our first gathering will be our Harvest Service on Thursday 8 October, and we are delighted to invite all parents and carers to attend.

We are also planning a range of exciting performance and show opportunities throughout the year and look forward to sharing more details with you in the coming weeks.

Headteacher Weekly Update – 3rd July 2026

The holidays are here! ☀️
This week, we celebrated the end of another fantastic school year with our Leavers' Show on Thursday. Our Primary 6/7 pupils performed brilliantly, and it was wonderful to welcome so many parents, carers and family members into school to share this special occasion with us.
A huge good luck to our Primary 7 pupils as they move on to Glenwood High School. We will miss you all greatly, but we are confident that you will continue to achieve great things in the years ahead.
We would also like to thank and say farewell to Mrs Clapcott and Miss Parmenter, who are both leaving us this term. We wish them every success and happiness for the future.

Headteacher Weekly Update – 28th June 2026

Only one week left of school!
It’s going to be a busy week, with lots of transition activities, pupils meeting their teacher and a leaver’s show!

Primary 7 End of Year Day Out
A huge thank you to the Newcastle Parent Partnership who covered the cost of the Primary 7 Day Out last week. The pupils enjoyed a game of bowling and lunch together in the morning, before having an afternoon in the sun at Riverside Park with some ice cream. The pupils are now turning their attention to their leaver’s show this week.

End of term show – 2nd July:
Our Primary 6/7 pupils have been working hard on their end-of-year show, which will take place during our Summer Service on Thursday 2nd July at 9.30am. All classes have been practising songs for this special occasion, and we are very much looking forward to sharing their performances with you. This will also be a final opportunity for our Primary 7 pupils to perform before they leave us for High School at the end of term. All parents and carers are warmly invited to join us for this celebration. There will also be an opportunity for Parents of P7 pupils to stay behind after the show for photos with the children.

Classes and Teachers for next year
Letters were issued to pupils on Friday outlining next year’s classes and teachers. All pupils will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher in their new classroom on Tuesday afternoon this week.
End-of-year reports were also sent home last week, providing an overview of your child’s progress throughout the year. We hope you enjoy reading these

Headteacher Weekly Update – 21st June 2026

Summer Fayre:
A week on from our Summer Fayre and the children are still buzzing about the great time they had! It was fantastic to see so many members of our community come together, and we raised a fantastic amount of money which will go towards providing exciting experiences for our children next session. Thanks again to all parents and carers who helped, and the Newcastle Parent Partnership for arranging and running this event.

End of term show – 2nd July:
Our Primary 6/7 pupils have been working hard on their end-of-year show, which will take place during our Summer Service on Thursday 2nd July at 9.30am. All classes have been practising songs for this special occasion, and we are very much looking forward to sharing their performances with you. This will also be a final opportunity for our Primary 7 pupils to perform before they leave us for High School at the end of term. All parents and carers are warmly invited to join us for this celebration.

Classes:
Classes for next year will be shared with parents within the next week. We are currently awaiting confirmation of staffing changes and the impact these may have on class organisation. In addition, we are very close to moving to an additional class, should any new pupils enrol for the next session. All pupils will have the opportunity to meet their new teacher in school on Tuesday 30th June.

Playground:
A reminder that families and children are welcome to come to school on bikes and scooters.
For safety reasons, we ask that all children dismount before entering the school grounds and walk their bike or scooter to the bike rack area next to Primary 7. This helps ensure everyone stays safe during busy drop-off and pick-up times.

Winning House:
After a tough battle all year, the winning house was announced at assembly this week. Ravenscraig were this year’s winners and their prize of a movie afternoon with snacks in the hall will take place before the end of term.

Summer Disco:
Our Newcastle Parent Partnership are excited to announce we will be hosting our summer school disco on Thursday 25th June from 6.30pm -8pm. Tickets for this can be purchased on the night when arriving.

Newcastle Summer Fayre

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our school fayre on Saturday.

We were absolutely delighted with the fantastic turnout from our families and wider community and even more thrilled to have raised an incredible £1,567.30.

This money will go directly towards creating exciting experiences and opportunities for our pupils.

A very special thank you to our brilliant Newcastle Parent Partnership team (not all pictured!) for their hard work and dedication, not just on Saturday, but all year round.

Headteacher Weekly Update – 14th June 2026

Transition Events:
Las week our Primary 7 pupils enjoyed spending 2 full days at Glenwood High following their new S1 timetables. It was great to see the pupils interacting with new friends from other schools and becoming familiar with secondary high school rules and routines. All the boys are now looking forward to starting high school properly in August.
It was also great to see so families of our new Primary 1 pupils in school last week. Parents and pupils enjoyed a tour around the school and time in the class on Thursday and then parents joined the children for school lunch in the dining hall on Friday. We look forward to seeing the new Primary 1 pupils back in their class to meet their teacher on 30th June.
