Piccolo Nursery.

Due to our location we have very good relations with the local Primary Schools within the area which in turn leads to very positive transitions for children from Pre-School age to Primary 1. Our nursery provides a safe, pleasant and stimulating environment which promotes active learning. Our facilities include – a secure entry system, disabled access and an outdoor area catering for all ages. We all enjoy a chat with parents at the end of your child’s nursery session, however, if you have any concerns we operate an open door policy and can be contacted at any time. The rooms are:

Babies (0-2 years)

Toddlers (2-3 years)

Pre School (3-5 years)

Our 0-2 years floor is split over two rooms, with one room accommodating up to 9 babies and the other accommodating up to 6 babies. In total we can have 15 babies in at any one time. Ratios within these rooms are 1:3 which accounts for the large amount of staff you will meet. Both of our baby rooms are light and airy which provides a nice place for babies to relax and learn. Staff stimulates babies with equipment and resources to promote a wealth of experiences for young exploring minds, in a warm, safe and bright environment. Learning at this stage is done through sensory activities and the staff creates a caring relaxed environment where the children can safely explore. Throughout the day your child will be encouraged to develop their knowledge and independence through praise and encouragement. Toddler room (2-3 years) which holds 15 toddlers

Pre School room (3-5 years) which holds 24 children

Within our Pre School room we have a wide variety of areas to allow your child to develop and learn. We have a story corner, ICT are including a smartboard, small world area with dolls house, garage, dinosaurs etc, construction area, creative area, baking area, writing area and games area. The layout of the room allows children to choose the learning opportunities that they wish to use which encourages choice and independence. Throughout the day children also have access to the outdoor area to continue their learning outside. We encourage all children to plan their own learning by prompting interests and allow them to ask questions about what they would like to know. Every child is an individual and each key worker is dedicated to providing them with the learning experiences best suited to their needs. We want to teach the children to evaluate their learning and challenge themselves by creating their next goal. Staff within the Learning Lions plan using the Curriculum for Excellence and floorbooks. This Curriculum will be used in your child’s life until the age of 18 which allows consistency for your child and a smoother transition from nursery to primary and primary to secondary. We want our children to eventually become responsible citizens, successful learners, effective contributors, confident individuals. When your child is making their final transition to school we will complete along with you a transition record which provides your chosen primary school with a detailed report of your child’s development stage.
