Janice has consistently been a committed member of our staff team and we will all miss her. We wish Janice many years of good health & happiness in her retirement.
Today is an exciting day for our children as they get ready to start school. We wish everyone lots of happiness and fun as they continue on their education journey. X😊X

Thank you to Helenslea children, families and staff for all the beautiful gifts I have received over the past 2 weeks. I have thoroughly enjoyed my last 7 years here. I have been blessed to have worked with children for 40 years, best job ever! ❤️
Our Nursery Graduations are well underway as we celebrate our children moving on to school. This is such a special time for our children, families and staff. We wish all our children who are moving on to school the very best of luck. We will miss you. 💜
The children in the Wee Nursery cared for our tiny caterpillars 🐛 and watched them as they made cocoons and turned into beautiful Butterflies 🦋 When they were ready we released them into their own environment . The children waved Bye Bye as they flew up into the sky 🦋
The children in The Wee Nursery have grown their own Hungry Caterpillar 🐛 Here is a little poem we are introducing to the children maybe you can say it with them at home .
Meet ‘Jelly’ or is it ‘Gracie’? 🤣😊
The children in Bubble 1 are learning about stick insects and how to care for them as we recently acquired 4 of them. The children named them ‘Nuts’, ‘GoGo’, ‘Gracie’ and ’Jelly’. We would like to give the stick insects a larger tank to live in, so if anyone has a large tank that is no longer required, we would be happy to accept it. Thank you 😊
Good morning to all our lovely families ☺️.
Hope everyone is well this morning.
Eid-Mubarak to all our families celebrating the end of Ramadan.
Yesterday the boys and girls in bubble 2 enjoyed taking part in a baking activity where they made and tasted a mango lassi.
The children had the opportunity to develop and awareness of world religions and different festivals and celebrations and take part in these.
‘We made a mango drink and it’s for a party for Eid’
Wishing our lovely families a blessed Eid. 😊
The boys and girls in the wee nursery have been learning all about The life cycle of the Caterpillar and they have learned new words ... Caterpillar , Cocoon and Butterfly 🐛🥜🦋
All the staff are so sad that our dear friend Mary has passed away. Mary was one of the residents in Tollcross Sheltered Housing where we visited with groups of children through the years to sing and enjoy various events. Mary also visited us regularly with Billy, bringing goodies for the children, singing her own much loved songs (Puppet on a String) and sharing a joke or two 😉😊 Angie, Mary's daughter has gifted a lovely wee robin for us to remember our special friend Mary ❤
The weather is to be quite warm over the next few days. Please put suncream on your child before coming to nursery - no sleeveless tops or sandals please - let's keep our children safe & well 😊👍🌞
The staff have been developing our outdoor classroom, incorporating 'Loose Parts Play'. This type of play supports invention, divergent thinking, problem solving and a sense of wonder to children. The materials can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, and taken apart and put back together again. There is no right or wrong way to play with the materials, therefore helps to build up children's confidence 👍😊
Happy Easter to our families 🐣.

At 11am a picture will be put up on the site where the walk will start. You need to find the bunny to receive your raffle ticket to collect your egg (we will tell you where to go for that when you catch us.
When collecting your bags and eggs, you will be asked to wear a mask and to sanitise your hands to keep everyone safe.
The competition for the books and crayons has changed slightly instead of everyone getting a number we will ask you to put your name at the back of the raffle tickets and we will draw live. (The pens will be sanitised after each person uses it).
If you are interested in attending this fun, free event, please go onto the Tollcross Matters site for more information. Happy Easter 🐣
Our children in The wee Nursery have been having lots of fun taking part in all of our Spring experiences 🌸🌸
The children were delighted to be visited by the Easter Bunny, who brought chocolate Easter eggs.
We are very pleased to have our play den installed. This will enable us to provide more play and learning opportunities for the children whilst providing shelter from inclement weather. The container will be spruced up with a new coat of paint over the coming weeks. 😊
Good afternoon to our lovely families. The clocks went forward one hour at 2am this morning. 😊
The nursery children enjoyed a warm, sunny day on Friday and hopefully this is the start of many warm, sunny days to come. Please can you provide a sun hat for your child to wear during nursery, and let staff know if your child requires sun cream applied. Thank you 😊
Red Nose Day is on Friday 19th March and we will have some red nose fun activities. If your child has an item of red clothing such as a red hair ribbon or red socks, they might like to wear them on Friday. 😊
The Wee Nursery are preparing for The Easter Bunny coming 🐰🐰🐰
This Thursday is World Book Day, and to celebrate this event, children are welcome to come to nursery dressed up as a book character if they wish to do so. 😊

A little poem for Pancake Day. Have fun making up actions for the poem.
This is a delightful story called ‘Mr Wolf’s Pancakes’, read by the author Jan Fearnley. After the story, can your children recall the ingredients needed for Mr Wolf to make the pancakes? Who did Mr Wolf ask to help him? 😊

Today is Pancake Tuesday. Here is a simple recipe if you want to make some pancakes with the children. Let’s get cracking...😊
* 2 large eggs
* 2 cups 250ml milk (skim, low fat or full fat)
* 2 1/4 cups white self raising flour*
* Whisk the eggs and milk together to combine. Add in the flour, and beat until the batter is smooth and lump free. Add in any option add-ins you like here.
* Heat a nonstick pan over low-medium heat with cooking oil spray. Wipe over excess; pour about 1/3 cup of batter per pancake. Cook pancakes for 1 to 2 minutes, or until bubbles appear on the surface and the bases are golden brown. Flip and cook until golden; transfer to a warmed plate; repeat with remaining batter (spraying/greasing pan between ever second or third pancake if needed).
* Serve immediately with yoghurt, ice cream, whipped cream, maple syrup, berries, or any other toppings you like.
The wee Nursery brought some snow indoors and together we made a winter wonderland. We discussed what animals lived in cold climates "Penguins" "Polar Bears'. The children spoke about how the snow felt in their hands "Cold " "Freezing"
Happy Chinese New Year to all our families. 🐉 Hope it is not long before we are all together again. 😊
Can we introduce you to ...............Bobby Bingo ☃️ The wee Nursery's newest friend. We used our STEAM skills to create him - Designing , Engineering and Maths . Well done everyone 👍
I hope everyone is well; we are missing our children and families. Hopefully we will all be together very soon. Here are a couple of learning activities for you and your child to try at home.

There are many ways we can recycle our junk to make bird feeders for our feathered friends. These are some ideas from ‘Waste Not Want Not’. What items can your children find at home to make a bird feeder? Remember we have plenty of bird food in the nursery for you to use. Have fun and stay safe 😊
