๐We have been lucky enough to secure a fund to help us enhance our mealtimes at nursery.
So far we have purchased some books which will help us support and encourage healthy food choices amongst our children.
A good relationship with food at a young age can benefit them throughout their life ๐

๐Class of 2024๐
Today's school leaver celebration was just wonderful! Seeing our children sing and dance to a small audience was so special. They have all grown so much confidence through the years and have shown how ready they are for their next adventure... Primary 1!
We hope all of our children enjoy school and that they keep reaching for the stars and following their rainbows ๐

Did you know?
Transient art is the use of loose parts or natural objects to make art that is โmoveableโ and not permanent. It can be evolved and developed over time. It allows children to embrace the process rather than the product. As well as being able to continuously develop and grow their ideas, think of new ideas, reflect, and change their art piece.
As children explore transient art, it can help support all areas of development and learning. From exploring positioning, making arrangements, patterns, symmetry, working cooperatively with others, exploring their own ideas, and building on ideas. Communicating with others to share ideas and thoughts, talking about texture, shape, size, and differences in natural objects. Creating simple representations and giving meanings to them, the learning opportunities are literally endless.
With our variety of loose parts at Saheliya Play and Learn Centre our children have amble opportunities to explore transient art

As our staff reflect on their practice using the SIMOA guidance, we have made a social story for the children to use to reflect on safety, as well as floorbook, to share all their thoughts and opinions.
Teaching the children about safety wouldn't be complete with a cuddly elephant, aptly named Simoa ๐๐

Tomorrow sees the start of our Parent Story Sessions ๐
We have a wonderful variety of home languages amongst our children and families, and we want to celebrate and nurture these! Our first session will look at Errol's Garden by ๐ชด
Our children will get to hear the story in English and then again in Tigrinya by one of our parents.
Each session will also have a themed activity to coincide with the story. We hope our parents are ready to get a bit muddy as they find out how green thumbed they can be! ๐ฑ

On this International Day of Education, let's celebrate nurseries and all they do for our little ones.
Nurseries help children learn all aspects of early childhood education. These environments provide a safe, comfortable place for young children to explore their world and develop skills such as socialisation, communication, problem-solving, hygiene/food preparation, and motor development.
All of this and more are taught and discovered through play based activities and learning.
Play is one of the main ways in which children learn and develop. It helps to build self-worth by giving a child a sense of their own abilities and to feel good about themselves.

๐Nothing beats the smell of new books!
Did you know just 5% of childrenโs books have black, Asian or minority ethnic protagonists. Our children should be able to see themselves in the books they read and feel empowered and included.
That's why, having audited our books, we have added many more books featuring diverse people and cultures. ๐

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a Local School Nature Grant, thanks to players of the People's Postcode Lottery.
Our children will be benefitting from new log seats, a gardening kit, and a woodland activity kit which will be used to explore and develop our outdoor spaces, bringing joy into the outdoors for them.
In addition staff will receive training to help children learn outdoors.
Our children played an important role in applying for the grant and selected equipment that they felt would benefit their peers.
The project is run by Learning through Landscapes and funded by People's Postcode Lottery, Postcode Neighbourhood Trust, Postcode Places Trust, Postcode Society Trust, Postcode Local Trust or Postcode Community Trust all of who which receives funding from players of People's Postcode Lottery.
