My piece 'Threads of existence', created for a project on my first year at City of Glasgow College Jewellery has been chosen to represent Precious.Collective at along with the works of 19 other talented artists.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This piece is an interpretation of the journey of life and existence.

A big black circle to resemble the darkness we all come from and eventually travel towards.

A piece of wood to incorporate nature in my design.

Bright, colourful threads to represent life's beauty and boldness.

Based on the belief that ‘life is hanging by a thread’, the use of this material symbolizes the fragility of existence.

Copper wire joins all the pieces together as a reminder of my admiration for metals and the art of jewellery.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
All the materials used are non-precious and the majority of them are being re-purposed.

Materials: Plastic, rubber, wood, copper, threads.

Delighted to share that we are embedding a Carbon Literacy module in the form of a 'Sustainable Jewellery Toolkit' this term. The module is designed to introduce our students to information about sustainable practice and to provide clear and practical ways to engage with ethical making.

The implementation of this module builds on our Ethical Making Pledge with the The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust to help reach our departmental goals to embed practical and theoretical learning about ethical making into the curriculum at City.

The module will be run as a pilot alongside other curriculum areas such as Architecture and Hairdressing to help students become carbon literate and encourage collective action to address the climate emergency.

ChangeMaking Retrospective — Ethical Making | Promoting Ethical & Sustainable Practice in Jewellery & Silversmithing Internationally | Scotland - UK - International

ChangeMaking Retrospective | Organised by The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust in partnership with the Goldsmiths’ Centre, our fourth annual Ethical Making symposium took place at City of Glasgow College on Friday, 25 March 2022 after two long years of pandemic-related postponement. Makers, students, industry professionals and more gathered in the lecture theatre to hear a variety of ChangeMaking talks. Each year, our Ethical Making symposium focuses on a different range of topics to encourage students, makers and industry professionals to consider how they can incorporate Ethical Making into their own practice or business. This year’s theme discussed how through innovative design strategies and alternative sourcing, jewellers and makers can design out waste, source ethically and create better brands.
