Baldernock Childcare

Baldernock Childcare Baldernock Childcare provides pre-school care in a rural setting in East Dunbartonshire. We also offer after-school care Monday to Thursday.

Baldernock Playgroup was established in the rural parish of Baldernock, East Dunbartonshire in 1975 to provide pre-school care to local children. Baldernock Childcare is an Early Years Setting that caters for 2 – 5 years olds in East Dunbartonshire. We are situated in a unique and rural setting within Balmore. Services Offered:

Baldernock Childcare offers term time nursery sessions for 13 childre

n, 3 to 5 years old, including a maximum of three 2-year olds per session, as allocated from the Care Inspectorate to provide Early Years Care. Baldernock Childcare also offers After School Care primarily for students and families of Baldernock Primary School which steadily supports Baldernock Childcare. The After-School Care Service has become a vital and sustaining part of Baldernock Childcare and the community. The extension to 900 hours being offered to children and families in our Early Years setting will greatly enhance the continuity of care within the Baldernock community. We have, in the last few years had a change in management and are now supported by a manager and deputy manager, along with a child development officer, who go above and beyond the daily routine of 9 AM – 2 PM with the children and families in our community. Staff provide care, dedication and creativity that has been reflected in our recent Care Inspectorate report, 15 Jan 2020, receiving high praise from all the parental/carer questionnaires. This Inspection resulted in no recommendations or requirements being imposed, with the centre receiving a Very Good grade (5) in all areas inspected, which reflects the hard work and commitment from the staff team as a whole. Baldernock Childcare is a unique, rural setting providing for children and families in the community. We accommodate for parents/families seeking out a smaller, more hands-on Early Years’ experience for their child and we can provide that opportunity due to our intimate setting. We are seeing former pupils of Baldernock Primary school returning to Baldernock Childcare for their own children’s Early Years’ experience. Baldernock childcare has been able to hire a part-time administrator to continue in the modernisation of our service. The addition of an administrator has reduced the daily business management for our small staff, with the paperwork/documentation side of the service being taken care of, the childcare staff are able to fully focus on the children in our care. The administrator also has streamlined the finances and the organisation has been able to become increasingly more self-sufficient as a result. Our learning environment has undergone extensive renovations with the assistance of East Dunbartonshire Council, Community Grants, fund raising, and support of families associated with Baldernock Childcare.

What a busy week here in Baldernock 🌱

With lots of new faces joining us this term, we are learning all about each other and making friends whilst learning all about kindness and friendship.

We enjoyed some parachute songs and games in the playground, learning each other's names, following instruction and trying to keep the balls on the top as we shook it up and down. This built lots of confidence and allowed us to have fun and laugh together 🥰

Upstairs, we further explored colour to experiment with different ways to mark make and express ourselves using various materials including paint and pens. Lots of beautiful artwork making its way home in backpacks this week 😀

Lots of family pictures have been sent in, and children have been busy decorating their own houses to stick up on the wall with their photos on. These inspire lots of discussion, while giving the children a sense of belonging and reassurance when they feel upset or sad. The houses are looking fabulous and will be displayed on the wall next week! 🏠 🛖 🏚 🏡

Children have also been busy decorating little people to represent them at nursery. Lots of cutting, sticking and creating has brought lots of colour and sparkle to our playrooms and created a beautiful wall display showing what we have learned about kindness and how we can show this at nursery 🙌🤝👍

We have also witnessed some beautiful kindness between various children this week, with some children offering to help their peers when they need support, voluntarily turning off taps that have been left on and comforting each other when we feel sad. The ladies are beaming with pride this week and need to restock our sticker supply already 🌟 🥰

Our carrots and potatoes grew well over the Summer and children were delighted to take a bag of potatoes home to enjoy. We have already heard of some cheesy mash being made and enjoyed 😋 the carrots were teeny tiny, so we decided to enjoy chopping and using them in our mud kitchen where we made carrot soup 🥕

Balancing along the obstacles in the garden was another big hit. Children were keen to challenge themselves and make the course harder by adding various materials to combat! We witnessed children offer to help each other, holding hands and encouraging each other, it was beautiful 😍

Emma even learned how to hand sew today, due to a tutorial from one of the children who has learned from his Gran! We love to share our learning together and share our skills with each other ❤️ every day is a school day for the ladies as well as the children 🥰

Such a busy, busy week with lots of happy faces and friendships blooming 😊

Our first week back at Baldernock has come to an end 😊🌱

We have welcomed lots of faces, old and new, this week and spent lots of time getting to know each other, exploring the outdoor learning environment and the playrooms and resources on offer to us. We also managed a wander down to say hello to Captain in his field 🐎 🐴

We have some absolute superstars 🌟 who have joined our nursery this week and already settled so well that we've had lots of fun and can't wait to see everyone again next week!

We were able to harvest our potatoes 🥔 and the children were so happy with how many little potatoes we found in the soil, helping to pull them all off and put them in the pot. Now to decide what to make them into...

A brand new lunch menu has also saw lots of new meals for us to try and most children have tasted a variety of meals on offer already! Well done everyone 👏

We have also explored lots of songs 🎵, stories 📖 and discussion 🗣 while we get to know each other and find out lots of interesting things about each other! There has been lots of laughter and fun all round! 🥰

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all next week! 🥰

Our last full week of term in Baldernock 🌱🫶

This week has been full of hilarity as we enjoy our last weeks before our big schoolies move onto Primary 1. A firm favourite (for children and ladies!!) was the peg game..how many pegs can you sneak on your friends without them noticing 🤪🤣 we spent the whole morning sneaking and teaming up together to protect our teams 🥰

To celebrate Scotland's World Cup journey, we designed our own flags 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, sang some songs and stories and even made our own Scotland themed biscuits using icing and marshmallows 😋

We have enjoyed exploring our new Makedo resources - tools for cutting and making models from cardboard using saws, screwdrivers and little screws. Children have loved exploring the tools designing things such as a football pitch, rocket ship and even a footballer ⚽️ 🥅 we can't wait to see what else we can create together!

A colour hunt walk saw us spot so many beautiful colours all around us, and some of our superstars were able to sign every colour independently 👌 we are so proud of each and every one of them ❤️

Lots more opportunities for freeplay, exploring literacy and numeracy with our peers and enjoying our time together. We planted some seeds we have sown in the greenhouse into our planters and even chopped some rhubarb, enjoying the smell and texture. 😋

One of our children requested a song on, which she then performed a routine to all on her own, and told us her dance show is this weekend and she is so excited. Such a boost in confidence for this little one, brought a tear to the ladies eyes. We really do love our jobs 🥰

We finished off the week with a challenge - can you get from one room to the other using knly the cushions to do so..NO touching the floor! Teamwork really did make the dream work..collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking and teamwork allowed this challenge to be completed in no time at all 🤯🥳

Some Smartboard boogying allowed us to dance along with the Just Dance songs and we pulled off some fantastic moves and rhythm keeping 🤩

Some very emotional goodbyes this week as children leave to embark on holidays and the Summer break. There hasn't been a dry eye in the nursery this week!

Have a lovely weekend everyone 😘

This week had an emotional ending for us all here in Baldernock 🎓🌱🫶

More and more creations were made in our mud kitchen, with children working together, discussing recipes and ingredients and problem solving to make the most delicious and fresh dishes 😋 there was even some ice which made an appearance, and made an excellent addition for frozen smoothies and iced tea ☕️🥤

The babies were very well looked after this week, using the new baby clothes which were very kindly donated to us, along with nappies, bottles and some cozy knitted cardigans to keep them warm and well fed. One child was particularly worried that the line on the nappy was still yellow, because her baby brother's nappy line turns blue..how observant! This provoked discussion about why this happens and comparing our babies at nursery to real babies in our families 👶 👩‍🍼 🚼 🍼

We explored lots of pincer grip, magnets and peg boards this week to strengthen our hand muscles and develop our curiosity throughout the playrooms 🤩

Using bubble wrap, paint and leaves from the garden we created the most beautiful sunflowers which we have proudly displayed in our playroom! They bring such colour and cheer🌻🌻🌻

Bookbug made a special appearance this week, wearing his school shirt and Baldernock Primary School tie - he wanted to join us in Primary 1, but the ladies told him he had to stay at nursery because the boys and girls will miss him too much 🥲 instead, we enjoyed some stories, songs and a short video together about what our first day of school might look like. We do love a visit from Bookbug - he always makes us smile and laugh! 📖

We ended the week with a beautiful Graduation ceremony for our Big Schoolies 🎓 🥰 it was such a lovely celebration with all of our loved ones and the rain stayed off for almost all of the afternoon 🌦 😊 children sang their songs beautifully, showed off their fantastic BSL skills and were so well behaved throughout - we are so proud of each and every one of them! A massive thank you to all of our families who came to celebrate with us - we are truly grateful for all of your continued support 🥰

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all on Monday 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🫶🌱
