Welcome to our “You Ask – We Answer” series, where I’ll be answering some of the most common questions parents have about music education.

🎸 How much should kids practise music?

It’s one of the questions we hear most from parents.

Many people assume children need to practise for long periods every day in order to make progress.

But in reality — especially for beginners — short, consistent practice is far more effective.

Even 5–10 minutes a day can make a huge difference.

The goal isn’t long sessions — it’s building a positive and sustainable habit with music.

🎸 How much should kids practise music?

This is one of the most common questions parents ask.

The answer often surprises people.

For beginners, 5–10 minutes a day can be more than enough. What really matters is consistency, not long practice sessions.

Short, regular practice helps children:
• build confidence
• develop positive habits
• keep music enjoyable

Over time, those small daily moments add up to real progress.

As a parent, seeing the ongoing funding crisis in music education is honestly heartbreaking.

Music in state schools has been stripped back for years — that’s just the reality.

But I also think we need to be honest about something:
🎸 good music education is expensive to deliver properly.
It takes trained people, instruments, space, time, and real support.

I wish every child could access this for free.
Until the system changes, what matters is protecting quality while widening access wherever possible — not watering it down.

That’s the balance we try to strike at Amplify.

Music shouldn’t be a luxury — we’re trying g real hard to make it as accessible as possible!

New Saturday Music Courses for Creative Kids (Ages 10+) – Glasgow Southside

Not every young person who loves music wants another lesson.

Some want to write, create, collaborate, and understand how songs actually come together.

That’s why, this February, we’re launching Songwriting 101 — a short, supported Saturday course for young people aged 10+ who are curious about music and the creative arts.

This isn’t about grades or performance.

It’s about helping young people:
• build confidence through creativity
• learn how ideas turn into songs
• work alongside others in a supportive environment
• discover whether songwriting is something they’d like to explore further

No previous experience needed. No pressure to perform.
Just curiosity, encouragement, and space to create.

📍 Glasgow Southside (Kinning Park)
🗓 Saturday mornings in February (4-week course)
