Slow It Down to Speed Back Up❗️

There’s a difference between pointing out and solving problems📣

Each week I speak to parents who have a clear picture of what their child needs to improve on athletically…

Wether it’s not driving their arms/knees in co-when they sprint or pushing through their heels when trying to create reactive changes of direction, identifying the deficit is the easy part🔎

But if there was a quick fix for building smooth movers then grassroots football would look more like line-dancing and less like pinball😃

Throughout the last 8 years of coaching young athletes, I have built research-back systems to overcome the most common inefficiencies in movement📚

Just like you can’t just put an inexperienced child in the swimming pool and just expect them to swim, young athletes must be shown the basics before we can expect them to effortlessly cut through the air🏎️

Our natural inclination when we see someone struggling to move is to tell them to ‘push harder’, but often we are better off teaching them how to ‘float’ before we add intensity🌊

By walking them through the mechanical process that build forward momentum, we help them remain relaxed and balanced rather than thrashing aimlessly💨

The reality is, more effort doesn’t always lead to progress if a child can’t demonstrate the movement technique consistently when it matters most❌

And this isn’t simply down to genetics…

Through age- and stage-appropriate coaching cues, you can help your child:

• Get more out of the training time they’re already putting in
• Reduce frustration due to fatigue and niggling overuse injuries
• Showcase their technical skills at high intensities
• Find space under pressure and feel confident in competition

Rather than leaving your child’s progress to chance, follow our Sports Science Speed Guide for free at home and prioritise the details that matter most (link in bio)🔗

These are broken down into 4 engaging 15 minute sessions that relate to key sporting actions (read description)🧠

Together we can provide the next generation of passionate young athletes with the athletic tools they need to

Life at 😎

Young athletes are capable of much more than most give them credit for…

It’s great to have a facility that gives us the freedom to push outwith our comfort zone without fear of failure🏡

Confidence in the gym is built through competence, which is why we aren’t afraid to provide challenge in line with the science based on their stage of development🔎

Each exercise plays its part in creating independent young athletes who have the tools to reach their own goals long-term📈

That is why we are trusted by over 100 parents to provide their young athletes with the stimulus they need to progress rather than just ‘feel good’👏

DM to book✅

Single testing and session packages also available📣

Across summer, our goal was to introduce as many young athletes as possible to the role of data analysis in helping them maximise their enjoyment and long-term progression📈

Of the 55 athletes who tested with us, almost all of them have committed to weekly in-season training highlighting how feedback is key for helping them trust the process 🧠

We know that Sports Science for young athletes is still a new concept, which is why we wanted to put together a bespoke introductory programme which covers all based and allows new athletes to start the season with purpose 💥

Our hands-on approach gives you piece of mind knowing that your child is training with structure towards clear goals that you can hold us accountable to. No guesswork or AI plans, just research-backed exercises proven to get results🥇

This ensures that they have the athletic qualities to consistently show their technique when it matters most🚀

We look forward to helping more likeminded young athletes compete with confidence this year👏

Remember, sometimes less is more💨

Force travels through a complex network of muscles, tendons and ligaments. If there is the smallest breakdown in that chain it’s ability to perform will decrease❗️

Take a weak tap that isn’t flowing at its potential. Regardless of how much you increase the pressure, the power won’t improve if you don’t fix the leak. And the hardest thing is, leaks are often invisible unless you know where to look….

A lot of parents and coaches try to fix this by simply getting their athletes to copy the sport and do more sprinting🤔

But if an athlete isn’t taught how to co-ordinate their body then they will fatigue quicker and unable to demonstrate their ability on a consistent basis📉

I’ve seen so many young athletes push through this by ‘working harder’, which often leads to burnout and injuries if they don’t know where to put their efforts🔎

In an era of generic AI sessions and noisy marketing, we aim to help you cut through the noise and focus on the training principles that will make actually the biggest difference for your young athlete🙌

By staying up to-date with the latest research, we can eliminate guesswork and teach our athletes techniques that show up when it matters most🔥

Sprinting is its own sporting discipline for a reason, so anyone claiming to improve it must have an understanding of how the mechanics work and be able to give feedback in real time🧠

With experience coaching 1000+ young athletes, we know how to make the science engaging for long term success🥇

Stay tuned for more insight like this to support your child in reaching their maximum potential 🥇

Time is your most important resource🔑

Learn how to use it effectively for long-term success📈

‘Fitness’ is different for everyone depending on their positional demands and stage of development or maturation, so why do we see so many teams making all players part in the same circuits-style training🤔

The qualities that they are actually trying to develop: Speed, Strength, Mobility, Explosive Power, require their own specialist approach💥

This is why they are there are organised sports built around them. The level of detail required to make progress can only be delivered by someone who has dedicated their life to it📚

Now it’s not easy trying to manage big squads, even in the most elite training environments…

The year I spent at the Rangers Girls Academy was among the most stressful of my career, having to complete research and additional training while balancing multiple other coaching jobs just to pay the bills💨

My conclusion was that trying to provide tailored support for those who need it most requires its own dedicated approach❗️

Every athlete develops at a different rate, which is why small-group provision must be available to limit the role of comparison and allow athletes to push outwith their comfort zone in training💪

At Praxis, we offer a free introductory movement analysis to provide clear, evidence-based feedback on each athlete’s strengths and key areas for development. This ensures that they can prioritise what matters most, reducing any energy wastage and getting the most out of all their efforts🙌

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to feel confident in their movement and offering 15 weekly time-slots across two venues so that more committed athletes to build positive habits that show up when it matters most🔗

Grateful for all the parent and athlete that have and continue to trusted me to help out with their athletic development over the summer. Glad I can use my experience in high performance sport to positively shape the development of everyone I coach!

Here’s a FUN warm up with more than meets the eye to it. Coordination is a huge part of getting more athletic, doing something like this before doing subsequent athletic training helps increase outposts (think faster sprints, higher jumps, further throws, heavier lifts). More importantly this is engaging and fun, which is what training should always be!

It’s a concept I took from my time training to dunk a basketball in the early years of my journey as a coach and athlete.

Women’s youth academy footballer testing on the OVR, athletes love this thing by far a fan favourite GAMIFY TRAINING OVR Performance

Youth athletic development done right, it goes without saying kids aren’t adults… so why force them into a box. Allow creative freedom when navigating training, make it fun. This is key concept we never stray to far from, over specialisation at a young age is the key to burn out and injuries.

This is what I would have wanted to do for myself at a young age, if I could go back!

Our successful Giffnock football festival stall, the joy exercise can bring people never ceases to amaze me. Just look at that reaction!

Poppy clocking in for a very Scottish AM session, this is where champions are made. Brave the elements and be fearless in your pursuit of excellence!

Mason hitting some positions with the banded sprints, look at those shin angles

More AM rainy sessions, great turn out with coach Camy demoing how it’s done!

Young Oliver with some impeccable sprint mechanics, impressive stuff for just 11 years old!

Alfie getting work in on the hottest day of the year, footballer/track athlete combo I don’t know many kid that will hang with him in the pitch 👀

back when Scotland were still in the WC such a great summer for Scottish sports.

Kai getting up for the header,

Another concept I love is variety of movement and utilising constraints to achieve goals.

Want a higher output? Add a target. Nothing like

Consider this as you start preparing your routine for the new season…

Does the session you are watching actually make the athletes better or just showcase the abilities of those with genetic talents?

Coaching is about more than just exercise selection. This summer, we have been showcasing how effective running technique is built from the ground up❗️

I’m proud of the progress made by everyone involved as we continue to build strong habits that show up when it matters most🥇

When it comes to creating a powerful first step, there can’t be any breakdowns in the chain. Here’s an example of how we use different sports science principles to overcome specific deficiencies🔎

For evasion-based sports like football, games are won and lost in chaotic transition moments. At the top-level level, space to attack is limited which is why 95% of sprints are less than 10m💥

The best athletes are aggressive with their movement to expose weaknesses, forcing openings under pressure and staying consistent under fatigue⚡️

Think about the sharp aerodynamic point of an aeroplane cutting through the air and rising gradually maximise forward momentum during take off🛫

As we start to finalise the testing feedback and individualised plans for the new season, I look forward to catching up with everyone and setting targets to make this year the best one yet📈

As we begin to set targets for the new season, it’s important to remember that sport is not a level playing field. Some athletes are born with genetic gifts that allow them to get more out of the work they are putting in…

That is why we encourage parents and coaches to think critically about what they see online and follow the science as opposed to what looks productive. There are no secrets to overnight success, only the achievement of small, realistic goals over time📈

As a young athlete, time is your most valuable resource. As school and other commitments start to return, it’s more important than ever that each training session has a clear purpose to ensure that motivation stays high🙌

By using data to measure progress, you can analyse objectively what return you are getting on your investment. This allows you to prioritise the areas that will have the biggest impact, helping your child compete with confidence💪

Sport is a game of endurance, where consistently staying on a positive trajectory is the biggest indicator of success. You only get one shot to build strong foundations, which is why we are so keen to support with as many families as possible👋

By maximising their speed and strength development, we allow them to demonstrate their technical ability when it matters most and have no regrets when the season ends🥇
