The Top Scot Series for 2026 started with a bang yesterday as a sell out 76 kids battled it out in Qualifier 1. For the first time we were at Garnethill Multicultural Centre in this Glasgow based heat. Congratulations to everyone who played in such good spirits and to the winners Oscar Yip (Open) and Saitej Ganti (U900).

The Series rolls on with Qualifier 2 in Peterculter, Aberdeenshire on Sunday 4th October.

Venue: Garnetill Multicultural Centre, 21 Rose St, Glasgow, G3 6RE

The tournament will have 2 sections and is open to all young people of school age. Players will be allocated to section based on their live allegro grade on the day of the tournament. Ungraded players may be placed in the Open section if it's deemed appropriate to do so. All games will be graded on the Chess Scotland allegro list.

Having gained his 3 norms and reached 2400+ FIDE live grade it looks like former Lenzie Chess Academy kid Supratit Banerjee will gain the International Master (IM) Title at just 12 years of age! Many congratulations to Supratit and his mum and dad. Simply Sensational 💥♟️💥

Congratulations to all Lenzie Chess Academy kids who battled bravely at yesterday's Cathcart Allegro. It was a tough gig providing huge, invaluable matchplay experience. Sumanth Prakash finished 4/6 and won £40 grading prize (as your agent the usual 20% of this is mine Sumanth!) Well done also to Alistair (pictured) & Liz who ran a lovely event, well up to their usual high standards 👏👏👏

Apparently chess doesn't stop for holidays! 😎 Ani Vishwanath won a trophy at a FIDE rated event in Chennai and Mia & Emma Liu have been enjoying the annual ChessFest in Trafalgar Square
