The first Parent Council meeting of the new school year is taking place next Monday night 7th September at 7pm at the school. All parents and carers of children and young people currently attending Douglas Ewart are warmly invited to join us - hopefully we'll even have a hot drink available!

This will be the AGM - and among other things we will be choosing who will be the named office holders for the next year.

Last week the Parent Council were busy providing refreshments for parents and pupils at the P7 induction evening, and the 2 celebration assemblies. Well done to all of our young people who had their achievements recognised - in sports, academic studies and the wider community. We also ran 2 raffles to win Summer goodies. Thank you to everyone who gave us donations towards the refreshments or bought raffle tickets. The money is all put back into school for the benefit of the pupils.

While we were in school for the celebration assemblies we handed over to Mrs Whan some supplies to refresh the 'Take What You Need' boxes, which are situated beside the office, and there for any pupil who needs them.

We were also back in school yesterday to hand out crisps and water to all of the pupils taking part in the Colour Run. Thank you for inviting us to join you. A great day was had by all - in spite of the worst weather we've had for weeks!!

All that remains is for us to wish everyone a good Summer break, and best of luck to everyone waiting for exam results. See you in August!

Members of the Parent Council will be in school for events over the next week, so if you see us, please come over and say "Hello!"

⭐️Tonight we'll be serving refreshments at the P7 induction evening for pupils joining us after the holidays.

⭐️Next Tuesday we'll be serving refreshments AND running Summer hamper raffles at the Junior amd Senior Celebration of Success Awards events.

☕️🍪🥤We don't charge for refreshments, anyone can come and grab a drink and a biscuit, but donations are always welcome!

🎟The hamper raffle tickets are £1 each, and we'll be at school from around 1pm on Tuesday ahead of the Junior Awards, and from around 6.15pm ahead of the Senior Awards (2 separate raffles, with identical hamper prizes).

EVERY SINGLE PENNY we raise benefits the pupils, from funding the Christmas cinema trip snacks and supporting the colour run, to supplying stationery for those who need it, and even buying our netball team an ice cream when they travelled to the final.

This afternoon representatives of the Parent Council were invited into school for the Support for Learners Base Creative Arts Exhibition. It was fantastic, and we were even treated to some excellent choir singing, plus fancy coffee and home made biscuits and cake while we looked at the student's work.

Thank you for inviting us, and well done to all of the students and the staff. It was a beautiful and incredibly creative display, you really did yourselves proud.

Sadly I can't show you the whole exhibition, but here are a few photos we took today...

🚨‼️📣 TIMETABLE ISSUES 📣‼️🚨

The DEHS Parent Council are aware that the new school timetable arrangements have caused some concern among students and parents.

We are therefore holding OPEN DROP-IN SESSIONS at THE MACMILLAN HALL (Dashwood Square):

👉Thank you to all parents who have already contacted us, and to everyone who attended our first drop-in session last Thursday 4th June.

👉Our second drop-in session will be on Tuesday 9th June between 7pm and 8 pm.

We invite and encourage you to come along and discuss or raise any concerns or issues that you may have faced or be facing, with members of the Parent Council.

We will then collectively address these concerns with the schools leadership team with a view to ensure that moving forward these issues can be resolved and that this process is more streamlined in the future.

If you cannot attend, please let us have your comments by email at [email protected]

We are really proud of our school for its inclusivity and support for all students. Well done on this smashing achievement.

We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the LGBT Youth Scotland Bronze Charter Award. The charter recognises our ongoing commitment to equality, inclusion and respect across our school community. Through pupil leadership, staff engagement, awareness raising and support networks, we continue to build a culture where our young people feel safe, valued and heard.

The panel praised our strong partnership working, pupil involvement, intersectional learning experiences and vibrant displays which showcase our ongoing commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

A huge thank you to our pupils, staff and the wider community for helping make the Ewart a place where everyone can be proud to be themselves.
