βHe came unto his own, and his own received him not.β (John 1:11)
The eternal Son of God made the heavens and the earth, and he became a man to save us from our sins and to purchase our redemption. After his baptism from John the Baptist he commenced his earthly ministry of preaching the gospel and healing the sick, but in general the Jews would not receive his instruction. One would have expected the Jewish religious leaders to have recognised their promised Messiah, but sadly most were looking for a warrior king who would defeat the armies of Rome and the common people werenβt sure whether he was just one of the prophets. It is indeed a sad indictment to hear the gospel of saving grace and not to receive it!
