β€œHe came unto his own, and his own received him not.” (John 1:11)

The eternal Son of God made the heavens and the earth, and he became a man to save us from our sins and to purchase our redemption. After his baptism from John the Baptist he commenced his earthly ministry of preaching the gospel and healing the sick, but in general the Jews would not receive his instruction. One would have expected the Jewish religious leaders to have recognised their promised Messiah, but sadly most were looking for a warrior king who would defeat the armies of Rome and the common people weren’t sure whether he was just one of the prophets. It is indeed a sad indictment to hear the gospel of saving grace and not to receive it!

β€œThere was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.” (John 1:6-7)

John the Baptist was sent from God to prepare the way for the coming Messiah, the one who was indeed the light of the world. Many people at the time in history thought that John the Baptist was the Messiah and the religious authorities in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him whether he was the Christ, which, of course, he denied. The mission of the John the Baptist in preaching and baptising was to prepare people and to bear witness to the coming Messiah, the Lord Jesus Christ, so that they could find their salvation in him. The Lord Jesus Christ purchased salvation for all who repent and believe on him, but have you done so yet?

Banner of Love RBP 694 - Cumbernauld

Our old banner which unfortunately at the Relief of =erry parade in Ayr got torn in the wind , the banner as beautiful as it is could not be repaired due to being 110 years old and double sided ,we tried various people but they said the same thing due to age and paint it could not be done , so we decided after some deliberation to have a mini bannerette made with the same Biblical theme

We then organised a preceptory sponsored walk from Cumbernauld to Kirkintilloch via the Forth and Clyde canal which raised the funds to place our order with William Magowan of Brush Creations in Northern Ireland and we waited patiently for it to be made. Upon receipt we then ordered up new poles for it. At the 2026 parade Sir Knight Ted Fordyce, Depuityt Provincial Grand Master carried out a small dedication to have it passed over for the use with God's blessing at govan 2026.

The current officers of Banner of Love Temperance RBP 694 are as follows

Worshipful Master: Sir Knight John McIntyre
Registrar Sir Knight Stephen McPhee
Chaplain Sir Knight William Ronald Millar
Treasurer Sir Knight Alexander Wallace

The preceptory is now over 120 years old and is emcamped in Cumbernauld at the Orange Hall at Smithyends.

CHAPLAINS THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

β€œAnd the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:5)

The light of the Lord Jesus Christ had shined in the types and prophecies of the Old Testament scriptures and during his earthly ministry it was indeed more clearly shown in his preaching and healing miracles, but the darkness of sinful man to this day still rejects the illumination that God gives to them! In the blindness of their unbelief sinful mankind rejects and fails to grasp the clear invitations of the gospel to repent of their sin and to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone for their salvation. There is a Saviour for you to believe on for your salvation and in his light you will find eternal life or will remain in the darkness of your sin?

β€œIn him was life; and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:4)

Here in this verse of holy scripture we find another reference to the deity of the Word who is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, for only God has life in himself, (see John 5:26). It was the eternal Son of God who made all things at creation and he is the source of all life here on earth and eternal life for his people in heaven who he has purchased with the shedding of his own precious blood. It is also the eternal Son of God who gives spiritual light so that people can understand the things of God. Have you received this spiritual light from the Lord Jesus Christ and found eternal life in him?
