Do you struggle with chronic pelvic pain? Often looking at underlying drivers or causes is key!

So what do you do if histamine intolerance or mast cell dysfunction may be part of the picture?

1st - GO back & read our carousel from yesterday if you missed it!

Recall, mast cells are immune cells designed to protect us. But when they become overactive, they can release inflammatory chemicals, including histamine, that may contribute to symptoms throughout the body.

A starting point can be educating patients on high-histamine foods such as:
🍫 Chocolate
🥑 Avocados
🍓 Strawberries
🍷 Alcohol
🧀 Aged cheeses
🥩 Processed meats
☕️ Fermented foods/drinks

But it can’t stop there.

For many patients, the issue isn’t just histamine exposure… it’s difficulty BREAKING HISTAMINE DOWN.

Much of this degradation occurs in the gut.

So before you panic and think you need to eliminate every favorite food forever... think moderation first, not perfection.

Then understand that helping histamine to break down in the gut is just as important (if not more) than dietary modification.

Some patients benefit from:
✨ Quercetin
✨ Bromelain
✨ DAO enzymes

And sometimes there’s an even deeper layer involved, especially when symptoms aren’t improving.

This is why working with practitioners who understand mast cells, histamine intolerance, gut health, the nervous system, and pelvic pain matters.

It's why at Sarton Pelvic Healing, we’ve created a truly collaborative, whole-body model under one roof, so patients aren’t left running between multiple providers who have a hard time communicating/collaborating.

Our team works together to help connect the dots behind complex pelvic pain.

One of our favorite resources is gastroenterologist Dr. K*m K*m Patel (.gut_motility), who helps patients better understand the connection between gut health, histamine issues, mast cells, and pelvic pain.

You can see Dr. Patel out of our Tustin or Mission Viejo offices. 🌱

Many women think when it comes to looking after their pelvic floor doing isolated exercises a few times a day (or when they remember) will improve or strengthen their pelvic floor sufficiently - now isolated exercises can sometimes be part of rehabilitation, but I tend to take a bigger picture take on rehab coming from a neuro-rehabiliation background.
With moving house myself recently, shifting some boxes and having a client last week discussing changing bedding it is so important in the day to day activities we do, that we think 'whole core' to prevent pressure which can lead to or worsen prolapse. (if you don't know what prolapse is sign up to the newsletter via the website as I will be doing a blog soon about it).
Any lifting or loading that feels like hard work and can put pressure down the way onto a weakened pelvic floor - which if you have had a vaginal delivery, especially with assistance (forceps or ventouse) or a tear increases injury down below, then think, breath in to relax the pelvic floor, breath out to contract it, then lift, move or shake that duvet into the cover if it feels like it is adding pressure to the floor of your core.
