The Telling presents Purcell, The Musical
Saturday 25th April, 7.30pm - 9.20pm - St Andrew's West Parish Church (Renfield Centre), Glasgow
1695: composer Henry Purcell (actor Niall Ashdown) is not feeling well. Under pressure to finish a song, a series of surreal experiences transports him back in time, and his songs take on a life of their own! Interwoven into the drama are assorted compositions by Purcell: from b***y theatre ballads and joyful celebrations of love, to slow airs, a ‘mad song’, and numbers from his semi-operas.

Open water swimming plays a pivotal role in many great narratives, from Homer’s Odyssey to the work of contemporary writers, poets, and memoirists like Amy Liptrot and Iris Murdoch. Take Me to the River is an homage to stories that plunge us to greater depths. Journalists and co-authors Vicky Allan and Jackie Kemp discuss the myriad themes that surface in this fabulous selection of joyful, immersive, and life-affirming writing about wild swimming.
