Chime Expressive Arts

Chime Expressive Arts www.chimechildren.co.uk Music is not only fun, but it can be educational too.

Chime (Children Happy In Music Education) was founded by Aileen in 2011 and provides music, dance and drama sessions for preschool children in Nursery Schools, and delivers therapeutic music sessions in Care Homes and Hospitals. Every Chime Expressive Arts session is developed and structured to include the experiences and outcomes required in the Scottish Government’s Curriculum for Excellence.

Each session is one hour long and involves singing, instrumentation, dancing and drama.

• In a typical Chime session children are encouraged to use their voices, bodies, musical instruments and music technology to discover and enjoy playing with sound and rhythm.

• All Chime Expressive Arts sessions focus on different cultural events but can also be adapted to suit the projects currently scheduled at the nursery school, providing a fun and exhilarating basis for learning.

• Via imaginative play, instrumental work, dance, drama and music Chime provides the opportunity for children to enhance their creative talent, knowledge base, appreciation of music, communication, confidence and social skills – all in a structured and supportive environment.

• Using a variety of exciting stimuli such as stories, pictures, and puppets, Chime Expressive Arts promotes creativity and imagination.

• Using Orff, Kodaly and Suzuki methods young children are familiarised with sound, rhythm and pitch as an introduction to learning a musical instrument.

• The Chime staff understand that all children are different and each individual child is encouraged to progress at their own rate.

I Opened a Book - Julia Donaldson

I opened a book and in I strode
Now nobody can find me.
I’ve left my chair, my house, my road,
My town and my world behind me.

I’m wearing the cloak, I’ve slipped on the ring,
I’ve swallowed the magic potion.
I’ve fought with a dragon, dined with a king
And dived in a bottomless ocean.

I opened a book and made some friends.
I shared their tears and laughter
And followed their road with its bumps and bends
To the happily ever after.

I finished my book and out I came.
The cloak can no longer hide me.
My chair and my house are just the same,
But I have a book inside me.
