3/6 General committee positions!! You do not need any experience on committee to run for these posions
(1) Student Engagement and Welfare Officer - Outreach Convenor involves enabling our members to get involved in activities within the wider community, outside of university. This comes from organising events with schools and having a lot of involvement with STEM Ambassadors.
Also this role will involve the responsibility of being a welfare officer for the society for the first time this year. This role has been introduced for the benefit of members, so that if they have any issues or problems at any society events.
(2) Alumni Convener - An Alumni convenor has an important role with reaching out to Alumni of the University of Glasgow to organise one of the biggest events in GUCE. The “Drinks with Alumni” event has the convenor involved in contacting Alumni who are keen to reunite with their former classmates but also the chance to chat with students in a relaxed atmosphere. In the end of the year, the convenor will also record the contacts of final year students (email, phone number, Linkedin etc.) for future events. This is a fantastic role for students who are interested in involving themselves in the committee as it gives a degree of responsibility to organise a very popular event which is rewarding once accomplished. In addition, it also gives the convenor first contact towards alumni in industry!
(3) Industry Convener - The industry convenor role involves communicating with a range of engineers at various engineering companies to arrange talks, workshops and site visits which guce members can benefit from. The main event which the industry convenor is responsible for is the ‘industry fair’, which ran for the first time this year. This is a good role for anyone who is good at organising events, is confident to liaise with engineers in industry, and can be a good representative of guce.
